1/5 What did Europe actually learn from Ceuta? The EU response has strengthened border control, surveillance, screening and reinforcement. But those measures do not resolve every counterterrorism vulnerability exposed by the crisis. A thread on our new report by @JunFGG 🧵

4/5 Third: greater European capacity does not mean security independence. The EU can strengthen surveillance, screening and reinforcement. It cannot fully reproduce third-country intelligence, territorial access or investigative authority. The goal should be selective de-risking.

5/5 The answer is not a new CT regime for migration emergencies. It is a more shock-adaptive system: preserve CT discrimination, reinforce earlier, protect shared processing capacity, and stress-test non-substitutable external dependencies. Read the report 👇 counterextremism.com/sites/d…

AQ global leader Sayf al-Adl is based in Tehran and collaborating with the Iranian authorities. They brought about a truce between AQAP and the #Houthis as well as an alliance between the Houthis and AQ’s Somali affiliate Al-Shabab. So expect coordinated attacks on Yemeni forces.
Coincidence or orchestrated? AQAP expert @MohamedBinFisal reports clashes between Al-Qaeda militants and Yemeni government forces in the Khawrah area of Shabwah governorate, with reports of fatalities. The fighting comes as Houthi forces intensify their military offensive against the governorate.

"In recent years most terrorist organizations, particularly al-Qaeda and the Islamic State, have changed their tactics." "Instead of sending people to Europe to carry out attacks—training them abroad, bringing them in, and then deploying them there—they recruit individuals already in Europe, through social media and messaging platforms. They radicalize them, train them, and then these individual attackers or small groups carry out the attacks." What was once the home of Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss is now a place dedicated to confronting hatred and extremism. This new article explores how ARCHER at House 88 is transforming a site associated with genocide into a centre for education, research and action against contemporary extremism and antisemitism. It is an initiative in the spirit of the words of Auschwitz survivor Marian Turski: “Do not be indifferent.” @ARCHERatHouse88 via @faznet Read article here👇 faz.net/aktuell/feuilleton/d…

Credit where credit is due. I have been critical of the government on many points. But this is a good policy.
Extremists convicted of preaching anti-Semitic hate will be automatically banned from running charities. Under plans announced by the Government, anyone convicted of a hate-related offence will be disqualified from acting as a charity trustee or senior manager. 🔗 telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…

Preserving Memory in Będzin and Łagisza On Monday October 12, representatives of ARCHER at House 88 participated in a Day of Remembrance organised by the Rutka Laskier Foundation in Będzin, southern Poland. The commemorations included the unveiling of two important memorial sites dedicated to preserving the history of the Jewish community and the victims of Nazi persecution. The first ceremony took place at the site of the former Jewish cemetery in Będzin, where a new Wall of Remembrance was unveiled to honour those whose lives were lost during the Holocaust and to preserve the memory of the city’s Jewish past. The second ceremony took place in Łagisza, where a new educational memorial plaque was unveiled, documenting the history of Lagischa, a subcamp of Auschwitz. ARCHER at House 88 was proud to contribute to the creation of this plaque, helping to ensure that the history of the prisoners and the Nazi concentration camp system remains visible and accessible to future generations. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Rutka Laskier Foundation and everyone involved in these important initiatives. Every place of remembrance matters. Every forgotten story deserves to be told. #ARCHER #House88 #RutkaLaskier #Będzin #Łagisza #Auschwitz #HolocaustRemembrance #JewishHeritage

This is exactly right. I argued it throughout my tenure as UK Ambassador for Yemen. The Houthis could’ve been defeated 7 years ago, driven out of Hodeidah & land-locked in the northern highlands. The weakness of the international community has inflicted this current mess upon us.
