The athletic administration at UMass is one of if not the worst in D1 athletics. The system administration has allowed that and does nothing to foster accountability or change
Unless changes are made in Amherst, it's all a waste of time

High key @Learfield is one of the worst things about college athletics
I’m going to go out on a limb with my theory on the trophy and this is pretty likely IMO.
UMass has a sponsored trophy game with Buffalo. Learfield is very protective of their assets and potential inventory.
Another trophy, of which has been talked about much more and not sponsored, would devalue the sponsorship sold by UMass Learfield.
Both schools are refusing to acknowledge the trophy. Why would you let fans have something of intrinsic value? Everything needs to be sold… even if there’s nothing to sell.

Hard to pick what's worse, the UMass/UConn admins' inability to follow through on what they claimed the roadblocks were to a trophy game or their absurd, vindictive pride that prevents them from just using the 🏆 that's literally available to them already that people love

The funniest part about the Southwick Jug controversy is that Bamford (and I guess Benedict?) had TWO YEARS to identify the “mutually beneficial sponsor” he alluded to when the teams last played in 2024. Don’t like the Jug? Fine. Create your own trophy as you said you would!

Talking with some of the players post game as they left the locker room, there was no indication the Jug was in the locker room with them. They were aware of it however.
