Today in History
Forged in courage, tempered in battle and immortalised through extraordinary feats of valour, No 14 Squadron, the legendary “Tail Choppers,” proudly traces its origins to 01 November 1948, when it became the first Squadron raised after Pakistan’s independence. From its humble beginnings with Fury and Tempest aircraft, the Squadron embarked upon an extraordinary journey, destined to carve its name in golden letters in the glorious combat history of Pakistan Air Force.
The true measure of its fighting spirit emerged during the 1965 and 1971 Wars, when, as the sole PAF combat representative in East Pakistan, the Squadron stood resolute against overwhelming odds. Its finest hour dawned on 07 September 1965, when five F-86 Sabres, led by Sqn Ldr Shabbir H. Syed, thundered towards Kalaikunda Air Base in a daring low-level assault. Striking with devastating precision, the fearless formation destroyed 10 Canberras and two Hunters, besides damaging several other enemy aircraft. This audacious mission became an enduring symbol of PAF's offensive spirit, tactical brilliance and indomitable courage. In recognition of its exceptional wartime exploits, the Squadron was presented its Colour on 01 November 1976, proudly bearing the battle honours “Kalaikunda 1965” and “Dhaka 1971” — immortalising its sacrifices and battlefield triumphs.
From the roaring engines of Fury and Tempest to the formidable F-6, F-16 and F-7P, the Squadron has continuously reinvented itself to meet the evolving challenges of aerial warfare. Its induction of the JF-17 Thunder on 16 February, 2017 heralded a new chapter of combat prowess transforming it into a formidable Multi Role fighter unit.
No 14 Squadron embodies a legacy of valour, sacrifice and an unyielding will to prevail. Nearly eight decades after its inception, the legendary “Tail Choppers” remain as formidable in spirit as the warriors who first carried its emblem into battle — ever vigilant, ever ready and ever determined to defend the sacred skies of Pakistan.

IAF subplot:
#Balakot | The Indian Air Force, it can now be clearly said seven years after the fact, missed its designated targets, lost a fighter jet in an aerial skirmish, shot down its own helicopter, had another near-miss friendly fire incident over Rajasthan and was put on the backfoot because of the capture of its fighter pilot.

🚨 𝗡𝗘𝗪: Fans on social media are discussing a double standard that has happened recently in football.
Israeli player Abu Farchi was sent off for grabbing the corner flag and mimicking a gun.
Anthony Gordon did exactly the same vs. Spain but was NOT sent off.

Abu Farchi was sent off for a second yellow after pulling the corner flag from the ground for his celebration. He and Israel's FA say it's a snooker cue, not a gun. Gordon's finger-gun gesture did not remove a flag and he had no prior booking. theguardian.com/football/2026/… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sayed_Abu… reuters.com/sports/soccer/…
