They told David Howell he had done nothing wrong. Then the retaliation started anyway.
In March 2024, the DEA Special Agent was called into the El Paso Field Division and effectively pulled from his active duties. The reason given: the U.S. Attorney’s Office no longer wanted to prosecute his cases and they feared that Howell would testify about the DEA allowing fentanyl to reach the streets. As Howell put it, "They were afraid I was going to tell the truth."
His evaluations were downgraded, menial tasks replaced his casework, and he says he even found trash left on his desk.
Empower Oversight is calling for an end to the retaliation against Howell and for Congress and the DOJ Inspector General to investigate.
