COLUMN: Why is the NCAA fighting these so-called five-for-five cases all over the country in ways that will absolutely create an uneven playing field this season? Arizona's Tommy Lloyd has an interesting theory. cbssports.com/college-basket…

We are headed towards a season beginning 11/2 where some 2022 players are eligible and others aren’t eligible. That is chaos. As Rick Barnes and Todd Golden and Tommy Lloyd have all said— the NCAA caused this chaos by mishandling the rollout of a five year rule and the NCAA could easily stop it. The reality is the NCAA knew it wanted to pass a five year rule in April. It could have awarded 2022 players a fifth year at that time without issue. It didn’t announce the proposed interpretation of the rule until late June, and didn’t adopt a bylaw until August. When it did adopt the new bylaw, the text of that bylaw didn’t include the carve out the June proposal included. The NCAA’s purported justifications for the carve out are all post hoc— and in court, the NCAA has yet to name a single displaced athlete or name a reason, outside their theoretical, unproven displacement argument, why allowing 2022 players a 5th year is uniquely bad, given they are giving 2023-25 players a fifth year. In pleadings this week, the NCAA has lamented all the lawsuits, all while paying BigLaw fees to fight them. Competitive equity, fairness, and common sense suggest what the NCAA should do. But they fight on.
PC's Pinion, Simpson denied TRO, will file an injunction. Becoming clear that any semblance of creating a balanced competitive field in college hoops this season could be lost. kevinmcsports.com/featured/p…

Florida is the preseason # 1 in the AP Poll. Gators received 47 of 59 first place votes. Second preseason # 1 ranking in school history. The other came in 2006, as Florida started on top and finished on top as back to back national champions.

Some of yall need a reminder already. Enjoy the ride
Gator 🐊 boys final ride begins in earnest today with an exhibition against a solid Baylor team . Did radio at SEC Tipoff this week and said this Florida team has a 2018 Villanova vibe. That Nova team actually lost Josh Hart, but brought its stars with eligibility back after earning a 1 seed and suffering a crushing loss to a B1G team with an All-American (Wisconsin) in the round of 32 the year prior. Led by Jalen Brunson, Nova’s stars left with bookend national titles. Gators could end that way. Ot the randomness of March could happen again and it could all end before Detroit. Either way— a historic and incredibly important group of Gators. Enjoy the ride.

2013-2014 Florida also lost a scrimmage. Donovan was furious. Florida’s legendary seniors learned a lot from it and made the Final Four.

Michigan lost to Cincinnati in an exhibition last year. Mich was the eventual national champions in Cincinnati. Didn't even make the tournament. After that game. People on Twitter were talking about how porous the Michigan defense was because they gave up 55% shooting to Cinci

Not a big shot quality guy — too many other good advanced stats out there— but on shot quality Florida had a 27 point edge. That’s a staggering advantage and well— you have to make a few buckets to win.
Baylor defeats Florida in an exhibition in Jacksonville, 82-76. Kayden Mingo with 31 points and the dagger 3-pointer in OT. šŸ‘€ Thoughts?

Florida’s biggest issue today other than shot making? 1. Gators spacing is very wonky right now or was thanks to Baylor scheme - which is designed to run you off the line and then jump passing lanes one man away 2. Wouldn’t ever get away from playing through Condon, even when you don’t hit the open looks he creates when he receives and distributes at the elbow.

Never good to lose. Gators also probably aren’t shooting that poorly again this year. Credit Baylor. Mingo brothers were awesome. They were physical and competed inside.
