The 710th species for the garden was recorded here on Monday night (A Sprawler), with a super 26 species present. A warm but damp night did the business. And that is where it ends.... for now, back to other hobbies. Fordham, East Cambs

A farmer captures high-contrast night footage of two unidentifiable, pale figures standing eerily still behind a wooden pasture fence. The entities appear to be keeping a watchful guard as a third, similar creature hovers or leans closely over a completely motionless cow lying in the grass. The unsettling scene raises questions about whether this is an elaborate hoax, a case of wandering wildlife, or something genuinely unexplained in the dead of nigh.

My latest ever Acrobasis advenella was also Cambs latest, by over a month here on Thursday night. I still keep calling it by it's old taxon Trachycera! This and a suavella last week are the signs of things to come in forthcoming years.

No trap needed, Mompha epilobiella found by my son, trundling along the dining room floor last night. Quick photo then released outdoors where it belongs. No chance of trapping yet as the weather is a bit ghastly. Fordham, East Cambs

Last nights pick was a female Wax Moth. I catch many males, but females are far more elusive, so much so that I was asked for one to be included in the Pyralid and Crambid Moths of the British Isles before it was released. Very little else and too cold and clear. Fordham, Cambs
