ALT GIUB analyses the history of its own institute The students put their finger on a wound in the history of geography. Colonialism and geography were closely interwoven during the colonial era and beyond. This has been researched and reported on since the 1980s, but current discussions on the subject demand more. Prominent geographers from Bonn are certainly Ferdinand von Richthofen and Carl Troll. The student working group KritGeo now refers to the information station on Troll and calls for contextualisation.

ALT While the role of Carl Troll as a scientist during the National Socialist era has been intensively analysed and published at the GIUB, this is only partially true for the colonial geographer Troll. Inspired by the student working group KritGeo and Bonn Postkolonial, the GIUB is now shedding light on the colonial geographer Troll and will revise the contents of the Info Station. A participatory process with the involvement of all students and members of the GIUB is planned, as well as public discussions with experts and courses on the topic of colonialism.
