🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 to everyone working to make our schools safe for Black & Brown kids too. I still feel completely sick to my stomach when I think about the police being called @ForFlavia's 6-yr old & the countless kids/families we don't hear about.

Police killed nearly 100 people a month in 2022. There were only 12 days police didn’t kill someone. The majority of killings took place in scenarios where no crime was alleged or where police were called for nonviolent offenses or mental health checks. truthout.org/articles/police…

Fatema: “It’s unclear to me as an expert reading through the police contract why exactly [they] would be on paid leave instead of being suspended… How long will this officer be on paid leave while this investigation happens because you’re saying it will take a long time.”

Whether it is someone pleading for help in LA or someone in distress in Cambridge, the killing spree continues. #JusticeforKeenan #JusticeforFaisal We use these hashtags but there is no justice for either victim; there is only the persistent demand for justice for our communities
Truly heartbreaking. Keenan knew how the police murdered George Floyd & sensed his life was in danger. Just like Mr. Floyd, cops callously killed him on camera while he pleaded for help. US cops killed more people last year than any year on record. The killing spree continues.

A police killing in Cambridge, MA of a 20-year old Bangladeshi student, Sayed Faisal, has sparked protests in the city and back in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Faisal was shot 5 times during a mental health crisis. Community members are demanding answers.

The murder of Sayed Arif Faisal by the Cambridge Police Department is a tragedy for the Cambridge/Somerville community. Arif was a Somerville High School 2020 graduate, a Welcome Project youth interpreter, Mystic Mural project participant, and student at UMass Boston.

This. Somerville is in exactly the same position - we’ve made little practical progress in our approach and alternatives to armed policing over the past 2.5 years … despite the allocation of plenty of money and -several- victory laps by successive Mayoral administrations.
This police shooting in @CambMA hits a little different considering the lack of action on the various community-driven “alternative response” proposals that have been submitted to the @CambridgePolice, City Manager, and City Council.

The district is doing lots of great equity work and lots of great work supporting students. This move undermines much of that work. (It also feels icky & similar to the mess around the public safety bldg) @ForFlavia @WillieBurnleyJr @BenForWard3 @CKforSomerville @JTforWard2

I'm so tired of hearing adults claim that we need to listen to young people and then blatantly disrespecting their wishes when push comes to shove. @ForFlavia pushed us to entirely reconsider the City's model of policing our children after harm was done. These tweaks don't cut it
