♻️ What if the wood industy’s leftovers could become tomorrow’s high-performance materials?
🇪🇺 Across Europe, innovative companies are turning forest sidestreams and by-products into durable, low-impact alternatives to conventional materials.
Here are four solutions leading the way 👇
Reselo 🇸🇪 produces rubber entirely made from birch bark that can be used in various rubber applications. Tires make up 70% of the rubber used globally and is the primary source of microplastic emissions. The Reselo Betula concept tire from Nokian Tyres tackles this issue by swapping fossil-based polymers for a 100% bio-based, non-toxic alternative, that shifts the chemical and environmental impact of those microparticles dramatically.
European innovation is key to the delivering the full potential of the bioeconomy and replacing Europe's fossil dependencies. Companies like these can make that happen. Read more: futureforestry.se/research-a…

3. Preventive measures must be promoted and embedded as a core component of the EU´s climate resilience strategy. To ensure its effectiveness, the strategy should be developed in close collaboration with those who manage and steward the land on a daily basis. Long-term investments are essential for strengthening European competitiveness, creating jobs, fostering economic growth, and supporting climate change mitigation.

🟢 A productive and insightful day in Brussels with the European Forest Coalition.
🇪🇺 We had the opportunity to meet members of Commissioners @JessikaRoswall's and @CHansenEU's Cabinets, MEP @danusenerudova, forestry experts and attachés from Member States, as well as representatives from DG Clima, @EU_Commission.
🍀 Discussions focused on unlocking the full potential of the EU #bioeconomy and on how Europe can fully realise the climate benefits of sustainably managed #EUForests and #forestbased value chains for #ClimateAction.
We also shared a number of recommendations ahead of the upcoming revision of the #LULUCF Regulation. Full report (PDF): futureforestry.se/new-report…

Can production forests also support biodiversity? 🌿
A new study shows that fast-growing broadleaved trees may have more biodiversity value than previously thought-especially for lichens. This could be important for sustainable forestry in #EUForests.

Small-scale family forestry is the backbone of European forests.
Fredrik Johansson is just one of 16 million forest owners in the EU, the majority being rural family forest owners who provide an abundance of valuable assets to society.
