Witnessed one of the worst breaks I’ve seen in a while today on Merion’s 15th hole.
William Jennings nearly dunked a wedge, then had it spin back past the hole before running off the green, through some trampled rough and into an impossible lie in the front-right greenside bunker. Jennings then left two shots in the trap before carding triple bogey to drop to 4 over.
With the playoff likely to be 2 over, Jennings needed to bounce back quickly, and he did, birdieing Nos. 16 and 17, the latter by flushing a towering iron from 212 yards to 5 feet.
Got up and down at the last for a 1-under 33 closing nine, and now he waits.
