I'm trying to record lines for what must be the first time in like 5 months. I'm instantly reminded of why I hated doing it. *2 lines* Car going by *lines* A plane going overhead for some fucking reason *5 more lines* Neighbor starts mowing their lawn.

I never got onto the fresh air train. I use waves vitamin for that high air slightly saturated sound.

I was practicing mixing metal again and had a moment of learning. Post production teaches you to fear compression, so I approach it with a light touch. I'm learning to just not care as much with music. My vocals just weren't sitting right, and I was struggling to figure out why. I'd try EQ, faders, adjusting thresholds etc. The answer was turning the ratio on my distressor from 3:1 to 6:1. It just fit after that simple change.

Someone bought me a Ko-fi, but my old account was linked to it. I'd like to thank the individual for their kindness. It means a lot that someone would show me such care.

Vtubers! I wanted to share some advice on setting reverb for live karaoke when using Reaper into OBS. (Most any daw can do this btw.") I was playing around with making a fully free live vocal chain and wanted to make a little video on something. It's not the best editing, so please ignore that. The dialogue also sounds a bit crunchy since the chain is more for a dense mix, and not spoken-word stuff.

I've seen posts about pitch correction making a singer feel less competent. You can tell who has and hasn't dabbled in audio engineering. In a production, pitch correction is just another tool. It certainly can be used as a crutch, but I don't see it being used that way all the time. Pop music, among other genres, relies on an extremely tight sound. Musical elements are quantized to be right on point and "perfect." Your vocals need to match the production when other elements are that tight. Pitch correction tightens up the sound of your voice and locks it in to match what's around it. Vocals can really sound off when they're looser than the arrangement. Pop music is made to be easily digestible to a wide audience, and this tight sound helps achieve that. The brain has less work to do when things aren't as dynamic and musical elements are right on beat. It can remove the need to actually focus on what you're listening to.

Seeing a bunch of "I didn't know my karaoke sounded bad" posts. Consider this... nobody actually cares. I'm saying this as an audio engineer. People don't usually notice good audio. What they do notice is excessively bad audio and, more importantly, distractions. Loud background noise, bumping your desk, plosives, hard sibilance (S sounds), just anything you'd become distracted by and that takes you out of the moment. If you've not heard a single complaint from your general audience, then please don't go out and spend a bunch of time and money on things when it's not always needed. This is especially true if you have 0 idea what you're doing. You can easily take audio from sounding acceptable to sounding freaking awful. Just be entertaining, someone the audience can love and cheer for. Your karaoke is meant to be a journey the fans get to take with you. I'm there because I want to see my oshi sing, not because she has some bullshit running a DAW and plugins on her PC.

People finding out that concerts have processing on them is funny. Koreans seem to give no fucks about subtlety in their live shows. Japan is a middle ground, and English live is so bare bones compared to both. A lot of it is a cultural sound, so it's fascinating to see what happens when people get a peak into it.

A little tip on not boosting something too far with eq. Start low instead of high with it. Our ears prioritize louder sounds and louder frequency ranges. Turning something up can trick our brains into thinking it's good when it's not. Try to boost highs on dialogue/vocals by making a shelf, and pulling it down by -3db to start. The next step is to bring it up slowly until it sounds like it fits in the production.

Would it be too complicated to have a site that's like a combination of CCC and vgen? A singular place where you can post content creator jobs, and have a store front.

I have a question for music mixers. How much of your "secret tricks" are BS compared to what's actually needed to keep a mix competitive in its respective genre? I keep seeing posts about "my special trick" stuff for music, and I feel like a lot of it is just doing more for not much output. Mixers have made songs sound incredible for decades with an eye on good production, production practices, mixing on boards, outboard gear, and some minor DAW tweaks to handle phase, balance, and other common issues. I'm asking as a post-production mixer trying to get back into music. My mixing style is very old-school, so I'd like to know if my methods need to be revised for modern-day production.

My method is to treat things like a fake hybrid setup. Sum instruments to a bus, add an ssl channel strip to emulate a console itb workflow, and use a few plugins to act as my outboard gear. The individual tracks will get minor tweaking when needed. Like phase checks, matching eq, panning, volume automation etc.
