For five years, Free the Night has been campaigning on licensing reform, transport, cultural space, accessibility and removing unnecessary barriers to culture. Now we’ve just seen what can happen when we give culture, businesses and public space more room to breathe.
Now let’s actually learn from it.
Don’t let this be the exception.
We need permanent reform now.

Call-out for rave tales ‼️
If you have journeyed through the clubs, raves and dancefloor as of the 1990s and early 2000s in Northern Ireland, your rave stories are needed for a new research project!
Once completed, the research will be shared in publications with the hope of contributing to ongoing efforts to document the significance of dance music culture for communities, wellbeing and peace.
If you’d like to share some stories with her in a short interview, contact Dr Maria directly at [email protected]

We have evidence that @HospUlster are encouraging members to oppose licensing changes that could support cultural venues.
We think that needs challenged.
We’ve asked before to see the evidence behind some of @HospUlster licensing claims. Our FOI request was refused, and that refusal is now with the Information Commissioner.
If big claims are being made about licensing reform, the evidence behind those claims should be public.
Respond to the latest government consultation on licensing 🚨
The Department for Communities is currently consulting on whether Northern Ireland’s licensing system supports market diversity and innovation.
Thread below👇
The consultation closes in six days, so please take some time over the next few days to respond. We’re sorry we haven’t been able to share this sooner, our workload both outside and within FTN has intensified recently and we’ve been struggling to keep up.
We hope our response is helpful and makes it easier for people to take part in this consultation.
Head to the link in our bio to read our blog post and full response to the consultation.
