Late this morning, I was alerted by the @nycbirdalliance, that construction had started once again on this water tower.
Upon arriving at the scene, I demanded that Building Management stop construction and soon thereafter @NYSDEC arrived on scene to enforce the stop work order.
As of now, construction on the building has been fully halted.
Thanks to @NYSDEC for their swift action and @nycbirdalliance for their continued advocacy.
While the 75th Street Owl Family appears to be reunited after the cruel eviction tactics, let’s make sure that the humans involved are made to account for their vile + illegal behavior.
What was lost: one of the UWS barn owl parents checking on their nest a couple nights ago (above) and doing the same with what little remained of it tonight (below). After a stressful day and early evening, the family reunited and all owlets were accounted for.

Crows, a Red Tailed Hawk + a Wild Turkey Take Manhattan. Sounds like the plot for a children’s book or movie…

They have broken Federal + NYState Laws!!!

They have broken federal law, we shouldn’t have to be sitting here wishing and praying there will be consequences. There simply needs to be criminal charges filed and punishment inflicted to the absolute furthest extent of that law. This is a fucking outrage.

How sad! Why not replace that roof ASAP, and make it habitable for the owls; they will return if their spot is restored!

How about a great solution: Restore the roof ASAP (tomorrow), using the same design/ entrance location, - make it suitable for the owl nest long-term, and the owls will very likely return to their spot.

See my statement on the construction that has disrupted Manhattan’s first barn owl nest.
I’ve reached out to @NYC_Buildings to demand a pause on this work. ⬇️

Some Barn Owls continue to be seen tonight on their Upper West Side water tank, on buildings near it, or in flight.
An easy way to monitor much of their activity is to watch their YouTube livestream UWSBarnowls filmed from a nearby roof.

They're so beautiful. Why are people so careless and destructive??
Can we not share a TINY bit of space with precious wildlife and leave them in PEACE?
Those careless workers need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for the harm they've caused the barn owls.

Mayor Mamdani says he’s opposed to mass surveillance, but he declines to say whether he thinks the NYPD should use stingray devices that track cell phones — even though his admin is moving forward w/ contracting a firm to operate them

All e-bikes should be registered, and inspected. The bike registration # should match the # which should also be on the battery at inspection.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani spoke Wednesday morning after an 11-year-old boy was killed and four of his relatives were critically injured when a fire sparked by a lithium-ion battery tore through a Bronx apartment overnight. More: abc7ny.com/post/boy-dies-fir…

The system uses beeps and flashing lights to tell bus drivers a person or object is too close.
