A glimpse of our Monday. We travelled from the Wye Valley to Westminster to lobby our MPs and ask them to challenge the government’s proposed Poultry Growth Strategy. This plan is being dreamed up (nightmared up 🧟‍♂️) by Defra and the Big Chicken lobby without community engagement

We think other voices, local voices, need to be in the room when it comes to developing our national food strategy to ensure that it works for our food security, our farmers and the environment. Thanks to @EllieChowns @LibDemDavid and @CatherineFookes for meeting with us.

MORE CHICKEN. SAME OLD SH💩T. The Government wants to expand intensive poultry farming. Their plan for all the extra waste? Good question.. 🤔 Our rivers are already choking on chicken poo. Expanding intensive poultry units risks making a dire situation even worse. So as the Labour party gathers for their autumn conference in Liverpool, we’ve been outside on the streets with a simple message: 📢 Serious about cleaning up our rivers? STOP the expansion of Big Chicken Help spread the word. Sign & share the petition and tell the Government to #StopBigChicken 👉bit.ly/4w9IRGm #BigChicken #RiverAction #RiverPollution #Labour

🐔 Who is shaping the government’s poultry strategy? Defra says it wants to remove “barriers to growth” for the poultry sector. But when Big Chicken has a seat at the table, whose interests are actually being put first?? Article by Nicola Cutcher: tinyurl.com/2vxepyep

Hey @NandosUK... remember us? 👀 Industrial chicken farming is one of the biggest threats to our rivers. Millions of tonnes of chicken manure are polluting our waterways, fuelling algal blooms and choking the life out of our rivers. If you buy around 30 million chickens a year - like Nando’s - the public deserves to know one thing: 💩 Where's all the muck going? @NandosUK. @Tesco. @kfc. Every major chicken retailer. 🐔 Don't chicken out. Show us your suppliers are managing their manure responsibly. ✍️ TAKE ACTION. Help stop Big Chicken from choking our rivers. 🔽🔽 SIGN THE PETITION: bit.ly/4w9IRGm @TheJimMurray @ActivistAnglers

This is an image of the Wye in Hereford taken yesterday. Almost unrecognisable. A thin narrow channel with algae stained gravel beds either side. Some recovering ranunculus clinging on. See our drone flights here: friendsoftheriverwye.org.uk/…

Why aren't Natural Resources Wales @NatResWales dealing with this pollution threat? Two deer were spotted by one of our citizen scientists dumped in the Trothy near Dingestow and reported on the 9th July (see image). They are still there.

The Rivers Wye & Usk once bloomed with water crowfoot (ranunculus). Today, much of it has gone. We're delighted to be working with Save the River Usk on a Nature Networks Fund project to investigate its decline and help this vital river habitat recover. @SaveTheWye
