Turmeric (haldi) is easy to grow from a piece of root bought for eating, but I find that to get a proper whopper your best bet is to use a self-watering system.

One gardening myth that causes a lot of disappointment: "potatoes are ready when they flower." Some varieties don't flower. Some are ready long before they flower. Some still aren't ready when they do flower. Feel the tubers in the soil with your fingers: only sure way of knowing

One of my favourite vegetables every year. Cucumber Patio Snacker in a self-watering pot in an unheated conservatory. Starts cropping 6" cukes in mid-May.
