They are after blood. School does right by kids and they do a hit-job. Of course they do. They are determined to ruin the lives of disadvantaged kids. 🤯

Thinking about two rounds of campaigning by #Hackney residents to stop the closure of Children’s Centres. So many time-poor parents & carers out leafleting, demonstrating , fighting, not giving up. Will @hackneycouncil @carowoodley finally listen & stop threatening our nurseries?

For every £1 the Treasury spent on free legal advice in 2021, it saved the public purse £2.71. A recent report from @thebarcouncil and @Access2JusticeF has estimated the value of investing in legal aid ⬇️
⚖️ Together with @Access2JusticeF, we are urging the government to provide more support for the free legal advice sector at "breaking point". Our new report has calculated the economic value of investing in free legal advice and found that the government saves three times what it spends. The repercussions of the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis mean that more and more people will face crises, putting the free legal advice sector under further strain. The new government should adopt a fresh approach and recognise this is an area where it can spend to save. Our Chair Samuel Townend KC said: "The report makes plain how a properly funded free legal advice sector would make a huge difference to the hundreds of thousands of people behind each case, those working in the system and the public purse in just one year alone.” Read the press release and the report: bit.ly/4d7H5Ne

A world in which Tom’s government dismantled the criminal justice system through a decade of defunding, leaving our prisons overflowing. It is also the world in which Tom’s own government released 10,083 criminals onto our streets, for the very same reasons.

There is so much evidence of the harm caused to people seeking protection by the appalling conditions in asylum hotels & barracks. Yet, as this forensic examination by @LInvestigates shows, private companies continue to make a sickening profit from providing that accommodation 👇

In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. The reason: The country applies a “Housing First” concept. Those affected by homelessness receive a small apartment and counselling – without any preconditions. And: This policy is cheaper than accepting homelessness.

Before Twitter gets taken over with Christmas-spam, let it be known that if a child in Year 11 with a Sept-Nov birthday goes into care tonight, there’s now a 50/50 chance they’ll end up in unregulated accommodation. That’s because according to this gov, 16 & 17 year olds don’t

Sorry to repeat myself, but you *really* need to know this. Under the government's Public Order Bill, anyone who has protested in the previous 5 years can be forced to "submit to ... being fitted with, or the installation of, any necessary apparatus" to monitor your movements.

Deputy PM @DominicRaab wants to "overhaul" the Human Rights Act to protect victims of crime, when it is the HRA that has protected victims the most, e.g. in holding the Metropolitan Police to account for failing adequately to investigate the John Worboys (black cab rapist) case.

Frustrating to see descriptions of Wayne Couzens as an “ex” police officer. It was precisely because he was a serving police officer at the time which enabled him to commit the offence. He used his police issued badge and handcuffs to unlawfully arrest and kidnap Sarah.

Between 15 to 20 unaccompanied children are in a govt. holding centre in Kent sleeping on the floor, in camp beds not getting proper medical treatment or proper facilities. There are guards with handcuffs monitoring them. This is appalling, Priti Patel. #bbcnews

Priti Patel’s Home Office wants to make it a crime for journalists to embarrass the govt by publishing leaked official documents. The maximum penalty would be 14 years in prison. This would put British journalists on a par with foreign spies.
