ATHLETES: Your athletic career will end sooner than you think.
When it’s over, make sure you can honestly say:
“I gave it everything I had.”
Here are 7 ways to make sure you can.
1: Be Coachable
Every coach has something to teach you.
Some lessons you’ll love.
Some you won’t.
Either way, stay humble. Learn. Improve. Grow.
2: Pass the MIRROR Test
Every night, ask yourself:
“Did I give my best today?”
If the answer is yes, you’re winning.
No excuses.
No shortcuts.
No regrets.
3: Earn Confidence
Confidence isn’t given.
It’s built through preparation.
Practice.
Discipline.
Repetition.
When you’ve done the work, confidence follows.
4: Never Skip the Work
Champions aren’t built on game day.
They’re built on ordinary days when no one is watching.
Your daily habits become your future.
5: Control Your Attitude
Talent doesn’t separate people for long.
Attitude does.
Bring energy.
Choose optimism.
Stay grateful for the opportunity to compete.
6: Show Gratitude
Your journey wasn’t built alone.
Thank your parents.
Respect your teammates.
Appreciate your coaches.
Gratitude keeps success in perspective.
7: No Deposit - No Return!
Life gives back what you invest.
If you want extraordinary results…
Make extraordinary deposits.
Time.
Effort.
Sacrifice.
Consistency.
Because when your career is over…
The scoreboard fades.
The trophies collect dust.
But knowing you gave everything you had?
That lasts forever.
Play with no regrets.

The Competitor's Dilemma:
In competitive environments
those who only do
what they prefer to do
and only when they feel like it
are destined to be average
no matter how much talent they have
because performance excellence
demands disciplines outside
our personal preferences.

Lack of playing time makes a lot of players get frustrated. Here’s Kobe explaining how it made him get better:

You don’t have to do hard things on purpose. But! You know that doing hard things on purpose makes you better. You know that. So resisting something because it’s hard is the willful choice to accept mediocrity rather than improve. Make your decisions accordingly.
