Support our Chair @Sebastarian's campaign for the Republican nomination for President by voting for him in 2028 in your state's presidential primary!
With Seb, we can achieve liberty and justice for all by following America's founding principles and through sound policies.
According to 2024 BLS data, 0.1% of hourly workers earned exactly the federal minimum wage of $7.25. Nearly all of those paid below it are tipped workers (mainly in food service) or workers with disabilities under special certificates.

Replying to @mikewinddale @nowwerevolt
@Grok, what percentage of hourly workers, excluding tip and workers with disabilities, earn the minimum wage?

What would degrowth actually require?
For rich countries, sharply lower living standards, vastly more economic planning, and other political choices that voters are extremely unlikely to accept.

🧵Several points. First, know that 19th c. price level measures rely heavily on small goods “baskets” or on relatively volatile commodity prices. Consequently, they tend to exaggerate the short-term volatility of P then compared to more recent times.

Very common myth. If you use a consistently defined & non-imputed measure of industrial production (unlike NBER), then the frequency & severity of recessions has not changed since the 19th century.
Especially obvious if I extend the chart to include 2008 and 2020.

The Democratic Socialists of America have 131 endorsed candidates on the ballot November 3, in 30 states and Washington, D.C. Ten are running for the U.S. House.
Americans who love our country must show up big to defeat the socialists, and when you vote, bring a friend.

I have signed Prof. Beito's petition in my capacity as National Chair of the Republican Anarchist Caucus, and I urge everybody to sign it too.
Judge Andrew P. Napolitano has now joined the list of signers on a petition endorsing a federal Israel-Palestine based on the Swiss canton model. The others endorsers include Juan Cole, Deirdre McCloskey, and Ray McGovern.

Medicare for All is deceptive wordplay.
The Democrats' single-payer bill BANS Medicare Advantage and traditional Medicare and dumps every senior into the same system with every US resident, including illegal aliens.
Calling their UK-style system "Medicare" is just a cover to confuse seniors. This plan destroys Medicare.

If you look at the D9/D1 ratio for wages, i. e. the average wage for the top 10% relative to the average wage for the lowest 10%, it's actually lower in many Western economies today than it was in the Soviet Union for most of its existence.
There was a lot of wage compression under Brezhnev and wage inequality was actually higher under Stalin, who castigated the egalitarianism of people who insisted on a more compressed pay scale, so amusingly you could make the case that Stalin understood incentives better than most contemporary leftists.
Still, it's interesting that Western economies can get away with such compressed wage distributions and still be so rich, because it suggests that maybe dampening wages-based incentives is not such a big deal as long as people can earn capital income and taxation doesn't destroy incentives based on that.

"SOCIALISM" for the Nazis denotes the principle of COLLECTIVISM as such and its corollary, STATISM—in every field of human action, including but not limited to economics.
"To be a socialist," says Goebbels, "is to submit the I to the thou; socialism is sacrificing the individual to the whole."

In 1960 the Aral Sea was the fourth-largest lake on Earth, and the fishing towns on its shore were hauling in 160 tons of fish a day.
Then a cotton plan written in Moscow sent the sea's two rivers into the fields. By 2009, more than 90% of the sea's water was gone.
This is what Soviet central planning did to nature. 🧵

The Aral Sea debacle remains the best riposte to the idea that environmentalism is best served by socialism. It really is not.
