It's not a suggestion...you need to stop. School buses are statistically the safest way to transport school children. Unfortunately, dangers still arise: From 2000-2024, 63 fatalities in crashes involved a driver illegally passing a stopped school bus, an average of 2.5 fatalities a year. Almost half of those fatalities were pedestrians who were 18 years old or younger.

GREENSBORO, NC (October 18, 2026) โ€“ Greensboro Police arrested a 41-year-old man Saturday in connection with a shooting Oct. 15 that injured another man. At approximately 8:50 p.m. Oct. 15, officers responded to the 2100 block of Windsor Street, where a man with a gunshot wound told them he was shot on East Florida Street before he ran to Windsor Street. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. Brandon R. Fox is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, in that shooting. Fox also faces the following the following felony charges stemming from his arrest Saturday: โ€ขtrafficking in cocaine โ€ขpossession of a stolen firearm โ€ขmaintain a dwelling (house) for keeping and selling a controlled substance (cocaine and crack cocaine) โ€ขpossession with intent to sell cocaine Fox also is charged with two misdemeanor drug offenses. On todayโ€™s date, Fox was charged with additional offenses in connection with Saturdayโ€™s arrest, including felony possession of cocaine, a controlled substance, which is included in Schedule II of the North Carolina Controlled Substances Act. He was also charged with fleeing while attempting to elude arrest, resisting a public officer, reckless driving, hit-and-run leaving the scene of a collision with property damage, two counts of injury to personal property, and two additional traffic violations. Court documents state that prior Saturdayโ€™s arrest, Fox was out on bond for โ€œmultiple violent feloniesโ€ and has prior convictions, including for second-degree murder. โ€œThe defendant should not be granted any form of bail and is a clear danger to the community,โ€ according to court documents. Court documents about the above cases are publicly available online via Guilford County eCourts.

The folks at TE Connectivity recently reached out to the Greensboro Police Department to request a site assessment of their facilities and to build a stronger relationship with the City of Greensboro. Our District 3 Community Resource Officers (CROs) were honored to help! Our CROs regularly partner with local businesses to conduct security assessments using Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles. These assessments help identify opportunities to improve safety and reduce the likelihood of criminal activity through thoughtful improvements to lighting, landscaping, visibility, access control, and other environmental features. By working together with business owners, we're helping create safer environments for employees, customers, and the entire community. If your business is interested in a site assessment, contact your Districtโ€™s CRO using the link provided. Crime prevention starts with strong community partnerships! greensboro-nc.gov/departmentโ€ฆ
