Interesting to see @IBAS_UK acknowledge over 3,700 cases of likely social responsibility failings where neither they or @GamRegGB could help individuals. Majority of cases £5,000+ Legacy of #gambling harm can't be ignored by new Ombudsman. *Source - Written evidence to @DCMS

Somewhat tone deaf of the Scottish Football authorities. William Hill - A gambling sponsor returns to be flashed a multitude of times to adults and children. Scotland had no gambling sponsorship of any competition for last 5+ years. thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/1…

Brainwash the next generation of kids with brand awareness of WH. Gamble, gamble, gamble. Oh but please do responsibly flashing on pitchside LEDs for 5 years. Such a backward decision from Scottish football.

IBAS should be no where near being a safer gambling ombudsman. They are not independent, have turned away 1000s of consumers wrongly directed to them for ADR for social responsibility failings. Complicit in complaints cycle of unaccountability. Concerning to see @OmbudAssoc there
Excited to share our vision at #ICE2023! Our Managing Director, Richard Hayler, presented our ambition to become the new Gambling Ombudsman and our commitment to resolving disputes fairly and efficiently.

"IBAS were unable to investigate 653 complaints in 2019/20 regarding social responsibility. We understand 100s who approached IBAS informally also turned away and signposted to Gambling Commission, despite the fact that they don't investigate." Ombudsman Association. Mar '21

"The process for the appointment of a Gambling Ombudsman was timetabled to commence in Spring/Summer 2023. The funding and framework were to be determined by the Betting and Gaming Council, which has provided NO PROGRESS update to date for stakeholders" sbcnews.co.uk/featurednews/2…

What a completely flawed system for the consumer. Denied any redress for failures! "In Commission enforcement cases regulatory settlement funds are directed towards socially responsible causes. When the Commission imposes a fine the money goes to HM Treasury."
Bet365 will pay £582,120 for social responsibility and anti-money laundering failures. The amount will be directed to socially responsible causes as part of the regulatory settlement with the Commission. To read more, visit our website 💻 gamblingcommission.gov.uk/ne…

Scott Benton MP was "secretly filmed by undercover reporters, who were posing as gambling industry investors, saying he could lobby ministers." Wonder where his next job will be? bbc.co.uk/news/uk-68658896

A 'regulated' UK Gambling industry where operators just do what they want. The abuse of terms of conditions needs greater scrutiny surely. teapawt.org/Betgolfworld/status/17…

An small update on the Gambling Ombudsman from MP questions. Seems Ombudsman Association heavily involved. It was meant to be running by the summer.

Very interesting given the bonuses and VIP treatment given. Contract law taken into account. "Section 33 has been applied in cases where one party was at a disadvantage due to mental or psychological weakness, old age, illness, and the counterparty exploited this vulnerability."

“I read she makes £742,000 a day so I don’t think she’ll miss my £30 winnings. It’s a right faff setting up an account and I didn’t even get to use the free bets. It’s just been a waste of time."
thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/… State of this. Laughable. He won £30 on the day he opened his account & 365 shut the account @StuartAndrew @andrewjonrhodes @BetGameCouncil The modern UK licensed market is a joke. Should've lost a grand on slots, he'd have got a bonus.

Why would financial checks increase problem gambling Matt? The very reason that all this affordability mess has come along is the ridiculous implementation of these. Self regulating doesn't work.
Plans for financial checks will damage horseracing and increase problem gambling. Any jockey knows when a race is going wrong. It is time to return to the stalls on this one and start again.

How many of the MPs in this 🧵that have received paid BGC hospitality at events, are going to ask a question in Parliament around gambling affordability?
Would be an interesting check as to how many of these #MPs received hospitality tickets to sporting or music events, and/or asked a question in Parliament, prior to and after supporting the sham of safer #gambling week? bettingandgamingcouncil.com/…
