You forget how much you enjoy something when you don’t have it for 6 months.
College basketball will always remain the best sport and it’s even better starting the year with a winner
Long season ahead of us, yall jump on ship now because this season is different I feel it.
Villanova vs. Notre Dame (Rome, Sun Nov 1, 9:30 AM ET)
Notre Dame +7.5 (-115) 1U
College Basketball Is Finally Here🙏
Villanova (Kevin Willard, Year 2)
The roster is almost entirely new. Everyone except Tyler Perkins and Matt Hodge left via the portal, and Willard rebuilt around experience, depth and size. yardbarker
Projected starters: Perkins, point guard Elijah Crawford (UIC), forwards Kwame Evans Jr. (Oregon) and Devin Royal (Ohio State), and 7-foot-3 Italian center Luigi Suigo, a projected first-round pick. inquirer
Perkins: he’s fully cleared after offseason shoulder surgery.
Evans is the big question. He missed all three exhibitions with a leg injury, and Willard wouldn’t commit to his status for the opener. If he’s out, Villanova likely goes smaller, with Fiegen or Simmons starting as they did against George Mason. northeasttimes
Bench: senior guards Jake Fiegen (Cornell sharpshooter) and Buddy Simmons (St. Bonaventure, 16.4 ppg last year), plus freshman guard Adam Oumiddoch. Further down are Carter Fisk (6-2 freshman combo guard), Abdou Samb (6-8), and returners Nico Onyekwere and Wade Chiddick.
Out: Hodge is recovering from a torn ACL with no set timetable.
Suigo: he’s 19 and has never played high-major basketball. Willard said he has “growing pains” to work through. He picked up two fouls in the first 76 seconds of the George Mason game. fieldlevelmedia
Preseason results: they beat Rutgers 77-75 and George Mason 84-67, then lost 93-71 to No. 9 Virginia. Willard said afterward the team isn’t ready yet. northeasttimes
Strength and weakness: size is the strength. The weakness is a defense that ranked 347th in block rate last year. baltimoresportsandlife
Notre Dame (Micah Shrewsberry, Year 4)
This is another heavy rebuild. Their top three scorers (Markus Burton, Jalen Haralson, Cole Certa) all left in the portal. Shrewsberry brought in six transfers and four freshmen. wsbtabc57
Projected starters: Braeden Shrewsberry, Braeden Smith (Gonzaga), Ethan Roberts (Penn) and Logan Duncomb (Winthrop), plus Brady Koehler, who started the last 13 games last season.
Braeden Smith: a 6-0 point guard who posted a 3.34 assist-to-turnover ratio, 12th nationally. fightingirish
Braeden Shrewsberry: he’s the only returning regular starter, at 11.9 ppg and 40.2% from three last season. yournews
Duncomb: the reigning Big South Player of the Year. He and Yoro Diallo are both 6-9 forwards. abc57
Bench: Diallo, Devin Brown, Bryce Dortch, Logan Imes, Tommy Ahneman and freshman Nick Shrewsberry (6-5 guard).
Experience: the roster has four grad students and two seniors. That is a real edge in a chemistry-light opener. wsbt
Weakness: the offense has lost its playmaking and shot creation. Smith is a pass-first guard, not a scorer.
Matchup read: Villanova has the clear talent edge, with Suigo and Royal on the interior. Both teams have about 10 newcomers, so nobody has a chemistry advantage. Foul trouble for Suigo and Evans’s availability are the biggest swing factors. 7 points is simply too many in a game where chemistry will be lacking on both sides, I expect Shrewsberry to get his and keep the Irish in this game🍀

Maryland ML (+121)🐢
Going back to the fired coach system that fed us Baylor ML last night. feels like Maryland has been a short dog at home and has burned a lot of people this season, but the spot here is too good to pass up.
Illinois is off an 11 point win against Oregon, while Maryland has lost 5 straight games.
This is the same spread as the UCLA game where they lost by 51 POINTS.
Give me the Terps off a bye, with a fired coach system in play, to get it done in this noon slate

One of my best friends is getting married on Halloween night this Saturday
But the after party will not be seeing me
I will be in bed getting ready to wake up early for Villanova vs Notre Dame at 9:30am in Rome
If you weren’t here in November don’t bother showing up in March
How about a blow out winner to start the weekend.
Keep it moving.

BAYLOR ML 2U
Buying Dj Lagway in the biggest let down spot in the history of UCF.
Baylor off two straight losses to TCU and Kansas with a TT set at 24.5 (-113) which they haven’t eclipsed in both games.
UCF coming off a thriller in overtime beating BYU 39-31, a spot we were on cashing a 1.5u wager for me.
DJ, go be Great.

🚨CBB FUTURE PLAY #1🚨
St. John’s to win the Big East +270 (1.5u)
Under Rick Pitino, the defense has never been the question. The Johnnies won back-to-back Big East regular season titles, went 36-4 in league play over two years, and made their first Sweet 16 since 1999 last March. That was built on ball pressure, physicality, and getting stops, and it isn’t going anywhere. Pitino’s defense will keep this team in every game.
The Achilles heel has always been the offense. Those teams could guard anybody, but cold shooting nights and grind-it-out half-court possessions kept the ceiling lower than it should have been.
This year, Pitino went and got scorers.
🔹 Keyshawn Hall (Auburn): 19.3 PPG, 7.1 RPG, Third-Team All-SEC. He set Auburn’s single-season record with 228 made free throws, 2nd most in the country. Before that, he led the Big 12 in scoring at UCF and dropped 40 on Arizona State. He’s a 6'7" big guard who lives at the line, which is exactly what a defense-first team needs in a tight game late. His eligibility is cleared.
🔹 Tounde Yessoufou (Baylor): Former five-star. He averaged 17.8 PPG and 5.9 RPG as a freshman, broke Baylor’s freshman scoring record, hung 37 on BYU, and led the Bears with 2.0 steals per game. He pulled out of the NBA Draft to play for Pitino. A wing who attacks the rim and jumps passing lanes is built for this system.
Add Quinn Ellis at point guard after a EuroLeague season with Olimpia Milano, and this is the most talented offensive roster Pitino has had in Queens.
📊 The Market
UConn is the favorite at +136, and St. John’s is second at +270. I see this conference as a two-horse race. +270 implies about a 27% chance for a team that has won the league two years running and just fixed its biggest weakness. I’ll take that price.
⚠️ The Risk
This is a new-look roster, and losing Donnie Freeman for the season hurts the frontcourt depth. There may be some early chemistry bumps. But Pitino teams get better as the year goes on, and the Big East is decided in February.
