Enforcing fares is one of the most pro-working-class things you can possibly do in a city. Everything downstream improves. Transit becomes safer, more reliable, and ultimately faster. Massive improvement in people’s daily lives who depend on transit to put food on the table.
Want to reduce crime on the subway? Enforce the fares. My latest for @WSJFreeEx

I think most reasonably well-adjusted people would read this and feel pretty sympathetic toward Peltola rather than her annoying staffers.
SCOOP: Inside the tumult of Mary Peltola's Senate campaign in Alaska and her time on Capitol Hill. Peltola is known publicly as kind and affable. But aides recall angry outbursts, slurs and a shove. (She also required staff to feed a pet chameleon.) nytimes.com/2026/09/23/us/po…

Breaking: A federal judge has ordered Texas to air condition all of the state’s prisons by the end of 2029. Just over a third of the agency’s 104 facilities were fully air conditioned as of Sept. 1. bit.ly/3TFB0TD

Because it's a fox news interview, Talarico's trans athlete stance is going to get treated as a moderate pivot but it's essentially what he told Ezra Klein in January. It's just that nobody is clipping Ezra Klein podcast interviews xitter.cf/atrupar/status/2097773…
Talarico: "I oppose trans athletes playing in girls' sports if it endangers safety or fairness"

By doing this, you’re not trying to win over transphobes. You’re trying to neutralize the issue (or at least mitigate its salience in the minds of voters/media) so you can have the race be more about the issues that are more to your benefit — like affordability & data centers.
i never understand why democrats do things like this because if texas voters want a transphobe they'll just vote for greg abbott..?? why not present an alternative vision to casual cruelty/punching down at marginalized people

Data center water concerns are wildly overblown, but generating the electricity to power them poses lots of genuine tradeoffs that it’s very challenging to align stakeholders around given polarization + low trust. slowboring.com/p/theres-an-a…

i think AI is about to set off the biggest wave of historical discoveries ever and it's already started... > AI read the full text of a scroll buried by Mount Vesuvius 2,000 years ago, revealing a lost work of Stoic philosophy and a book by the philosopher Philodemus that nobody knew existed > AI deciphered another scroll from the same library and found Plato's exact burial spot, unknown for 2,000 years. the text even describes his final night, with Plato critiquing a flute player's rhythm from his deathbed > an AI handwriting model showed some Dead Sea Scrolls are 50 to 100 years older than scholars believed, putting the Book of Daniel within its author's lifetime. we could be looking at something close to an original > AI recovered a 250-line hymn to Babylon, one of the most copied texts of the ancient world, by matching 30 fragments scattered across museums worldwide. it had been lost for 1,000 years > AI found 303 new Nazca lines in Peru in six months, nearly doubling one of archaeology's most famous mysteries after a century of human searching had only turned up 430 > AI reconstructed the rules of a 2,000-year-old Roman board game from nothing but the carvings on a limestone slab, simulating thousands of games until it found the ruleset that fit everyone is excited about what AI will solve in the future i'm equally excited about what AI will solve from the past

Most data centers use the same amount of water—or less—than an average large office building. Meanwhile, they're helping lower electricity costs by financing new power generation. The hysteria over AI data centers is going to age very, very poorly.
NY Gov. Kathy Hochul is enacting the nation’s first state-level moratorium on large-scale data center construction amid concerns over the impact of the facilities meant to support AI. politico.com/news/2026/07/14…

NEW: We partnered with @zeteo_news to field an impartial, first-of-its-kind survey about the public's feelings toward Medicare for All. The survey included multiple descriptions of Medicare for All in an effort to test what parts of the policy most affect its overall support or opposition. The result? Support peaks at 52% — but declines to 40% when voters are told a federally administered program would replace private health insurance (including employer-sponsored plans) and be funded through significantly increased federal taxes. If given the choice to enroll in a federal program, 70% of voters say they would prefer to stay on their current health insurance. zeteo.com/p/medicare-for-all…

This is going to change how 90% of the internet works and if this is the direction Cloudflare is moving, it makes an even bigger case for third-party verification of said data (i.e. blockchain) even more necessary.

Great time to bring up @TexCapPolicy's white paper on how we can convert Zombie wells into closed-loop geothermal power for the West Texas data centers. A win-win-win for everyone involved.
Texas is poised to lead the nation in power plants to fuel data centers, according to a new report from an environmental watchdog group. The report warns the plants could emit tons of greenhouse gases and air pollution, causing significant climate impacts and health risks. bit.ly/4auZ9S2

It truly is hard for me to understand why Corpus is so anti-desalination plant. The tech works. The state money's committed. Federal money was on the table to cut the cost and the council wouldn't even apply for it. So now the city's on the hook for $231M in bonds, has no water to show for it, and restrictions could hit as soon as this winter.
A divided Corpus Christi City Council voted 5-4 Tuesday against applying for a federal grant to help fund a proposed $978.8 million desalination plant, casting further doubt on the drought-resistant water project. bit.ly/4oU3KTK

We can finally say AI isn't killing jobs. A new paper from me, @tryramp, and @RevelioLabs uses firm-level spend and workforce data across 21K U.S. businesses to measure AI's impact on jobs. Firms that adopt AI heavily grow headcount 10% over two years following adoption. Low adopters see no statistically significant change.
