Every time I watch It’s A Wonderful Life I never fail to cry, and then I think of this as Lynch himself swells up in tears. Rest in Peace.

Drawing tips from @GavinSnider! #FrankLloydWrightFridays
🌀 Curves are easy. Straight lines are hard.
🖼️ The building is already a work of art. You just need to get it down on paper.
⚪ It’s lighter than you think. Don’t overwork the facade.
🌑 It’s darker than you think. Don’t be afraid of bold shadows.
🚕 The taxis and the food carts and the people walking by are just as interesting as the building itself.
👤 The curved concrete is a backdrop for shadows. Late in the day, the sun drops low and the trees of Central Park are projected onto it.

Tonight is the @nyknicks home opener at Madison Square Garden. I painted the crowd and the court and the concave ceiling of the storied arena for New York or Nowhere. Here's the 18" x 24" watercolor in my studio.
I spent the summer painting skylines with @gethappymedium. Here are five studies from the Greenpoint waterfront workshop, painted once a month from June through October.

realizing only now the hold steady presupposes like….what if the counting crows….but drunker
Step into Elizabeth Street Garden on a Saturday afternoon. Slip past the sphinx and the stone lions standing sentinel. Trees cast long shadows, flowers bloom from beds and vases, vines creep across brick walls. Between a scattering of statues, people fill every inch of the lawn.
You have to take a different approach when painting Los Angeles.
Apply a wash of golden light so it always feels like late afternoon.
Paint in the pale greens of yucca and agave.
Splash soft purple shadows from the eaves of a Highland Park four square.
These cooler days have me dreaming of the Catskills.
A stone patio, a fire pit, a house tucked away in the woods, a pumpkin by the woodshed, trees changing, a few leaves drifting to the ground.
I painted this commission last fall for some friends in Margaretville.
Give it up for the Mets grounds crew, the real Legends of the Fall.

Before I begin writing anything, I see this image in my mind and choose a path forward
Waiting for the fog to lift on Balboa Beach. I finished painting Lifeguard Tower B as the morning mist burnt off in the afternoon sun.
