They were hardly gonna do E-Day then jump back to Gears 5 story. They have openly said in interviews that they're now focused on this 14 year time period leading up to the first game.

Gears of War: E-Day is reportedly planned as the first game in a trilogy focused on the Emergence storyline.

If true, E-Day would be the start of a much larger story exploring the events surrounding Emergence Day and the beginning of the Locust War.
Out of my many matches, I have landed only a single kill with this weapon. I hate it.

Was a lot of fun weaving and expanding on the old Tyran Fairy Tales of Romily and The Boogeyman. Lots of cool details all connected from different points of the series; games, comics, novels, even the original Gears 1 trailer if you caught the reference in the book collectable.
