The larger theme is that to participate in the Budokai, the strongest under the heavens you need to adopt the earthlings way of life and competition. It's the start of Vegeta working on moving past his old life by trying to compete in a way the earthlings do, and he changes.

There’s no better time than ever to clear the air.
For a long time I’ve thought and said “If people didn’t treat JK Rowling like jerks, then she wouldn’t have become so radicalized.”
I now realize my mistake.
Now that I’ve read her actual essay, I realize
She isn’t radicalized. She’s perfectly reasonable even now.
It’s so easy to fall into the assumption that someone is evil because everyone else says so. I can’t believe I’ve fallen into that trap.
I know not everyone will agree, but give it a read for yourself. The hostility she received is met with calm, rational warmth in the essay.
All I really want to say right now is that I feel I was misled into thinking this woman was a terrible person, and ended up avoiding such a wonderful series.
