Dennis Hopper was dying of cancer and weighed barely 100 pounds when a judge ordered him to pay his wife $12,000 a month.
He had filed for divorce months earlier, racing to stop her from collecting 25% of everything he owned. If he died still married to her, she would get it all, and he knew he did not have much time left.
She refused to move out.
Their prenup was brutal. He kept his houses, his land and an art collection worth over $2.5 million. She kept two computers, two bookcases, a 1973 Karmann Ghia and her grandmother's furniture.
But one clause changed everything. If they were still married and living together on the day he died, she got 25% of his estate. About $6.25 million.
So in January 2010, with months to live, Hopper filed.
His family said she changed the locks. He said she carried a Banksy and a Warhol portrait of him out of the house while he was "extremely ill." She said they were hers.
A judge ordered her to stay 10 feet away from him. Then the next judge let her keep living on his property and made the dying man keep paying her. His accountant said he was nearly broke.
He never got his divorce. Hopper died on May 29, 2010, still legally married to her.
She sued his estate and froze part of his art auction. It took two more years to settle.
In the video below, two months before he died, a frail Hopper gets his star on the Walk of Fame and says: "Everyone here today that I've invited, and obviously some that I haven't invited, have enriched my life tremendously."
The case for Dennis: she signed the prenup, and a dying man should choose who stands next to him at the end.
The case for Victoria: 14 years of marriage, a young daughter, and she was being pushed out while the clock decided her share.
Did she earn her 25%, or was he right to take it back on his deathbed?

Ted Bundy, one of America's most notorious serial killers, who confessed to murdering 30 young women during the 1970s, is back in the news after new DNA evidence linked him to the 1974 murder of a 17-year-old girl in Utah, more than 50 years after her death. Investigators now believe there may be even more undiscovered victims.
In light of this shocking update, here's a remarkable story about Ted Bundy and the power of the Holy Rosary, shared by Fr. Donald Calloway.
