Good video. If I could add one thing: academia rewards closers, not starters. It’s easy to be enthusiastic about new projects, and lose steam for old ones. But you gotta get those papers submitted, and revisions completed. This is often years after you started the project!
OK, so I did another video. I'm being a bit forthright in this one. But, hey...if it's what you think, it's what you think, right? It's entitled: "Why Your Enthusiasm Isn't Getting You Anywhere!" Clicky linky here 👇 youtube.com/watch?v=3nOKXpLr…

Hey @iscbsc @RSGItOfficial networks. I am *urgently* looking for candidates to start a very exciting PhD project in ML/bioinformatics applied to mass spectrometry-based metabolomics ! This would be at the University Cote d'Azur with the Interdisciplinary Institute for AI.

Over 20 years ago, Bill Gerwick @GerwickL and I proposed this unusual biosynthetic route involving a single carbon truncation. Great to see the proof. Enzymatic α-Ketothioester Decarbonylation Occurs in the Assembly Line of Barbamide for Skeleton Editing pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/jac…

So fun to be at a meeting where the structure of a molecule discovered 30 years ago was finally solved. This will be one fun story to write up.

What are people’s favorite tools for comparing a set of very closely related microbial genomes and (1) identifying SNPs / indels / rearrangements and (2) inferring recombination / phylogeny?

MIBiG version 3 is out! So grateful to the many dozens of people worldwide who helped annotate hundreds of new biosynthetic gene clusters, enzymes and molecules. Particular thanks go out to @BDragonMaster & @kaiblin for their efforts! Read the paper here: academic.oup.com/nar/advance…

However, you only get the Twitter IDs of your contacts, not their handles – inconvenient. So I used twtdata.com/ do download them as csv lists – worked very well for a small account like mine. Seems you have two free downloads per email address you enter… 2/2
