The system creates the problem, sells the fix, and calls it “justice.”
We don’t ask permission. We use the law itself to end the game.
Credit. Foreclosure. Trusts. Tickets. Child Support.
Different fronts, same battle: reclaiming authority over your name, your rights, your property.
Learn how the law really works.

A process server handed your summons to your mom, at her house. You haven’t lived there in over a year.
Most people assume that counts as being served. It's not.
Courts generally require papers to be delivered to you personally, or left at the place you actually live with someone who lives there too. A house you moved out of a year ago usually isn’t that. If service was defective, the court may not have personal jurisdiction over you yet.
Here’s where most people go wrong.
They stand up in court and argue the judge has no jurisdiction over them. It makes for great videos. It almost never works.
What works is boring: a written motion, filed on time, backed by sworn facts. Where you actually live. Who got the papers. When. And it often has to be raised first, before you file anything else, or you lose it.
Rules vary by state. But if your papers showed up somewhere you don’t live, get it looked at before you respond.
I’ve had clients get judgments reopened and dismissed years after they were entered. Procedure matters more than most people think.

Hourly billing vs. flat fee.
When you pay by the hour, a long case costs you more. Every letter, every call, every month adds up.
I charge a flat fee. Whether your case ends in two weeks or two months, the price doesn’t change. I have zero reason to drag anything out. The faster it’s resolved, the better for both of us.
And here’s what the collector doesn’t love: your response costs a few hundred dollars. Fighting it can cost them more than the debt is worth. That’s when cases quietly go away.
I’m not a lawyer, and some cases need one. When yours does, I’ll tell you. When it doesn’t, you shouldn’t pay like it does.

Getting sued doesn’t hurt.
Getting garnished does.
The difference between the two is usually a deadline someone ignored.

Ignoring a lawsuit doesn’t make it go away.
It makes it worse.
You don’t answer, they win by default. No trial. No proof required. Then comes the garnishment on your paycheck and the freeze on your bank account.
People think “if I don’t respond, maybe they’ll drop it.”
They won’t. That’s exactly what they’re counting on.

That’s why I push so hard for people to take action instead of ignoring the lawsuit.
Even a rough start counts. A client came to me recently, and when I pulled her docket, her Answer was handwritten. Two or three sentences.
But she filed it on time. That one page kept her from a default and kept the case alive. She’s since amended it into a real Answer, and now the plaintiff has to actually prove its case.
Ignoring it is the only move that guarantees they win. Everything else gives you a shot.
Portfolio Recovery sued him in Tennessee.
He didn’t ignore it. Here’s what he filed:
A written sworn denial. Under oath, he denied the account and the amount.
A demand letter. He asked for the bill of sale, the card agreement for his account, and the name of their witness.
An affidavit putting on record what happened next.
Trial day: no witness from Portfolio Recovery showed up. Case dismissed.
That’s the second PRA case in about a week where they didn’t show.

He’s right. AI doesn’t win cases. Paper does.
Some plaintiffs have the full chain of ownership. Many don’t. And even when they do, proving it costs them. Discovery, witnesses, sometimes arbitration fees if your agreement allows it.
Debt buyers buy old accounts in bulk for pennies on the dollar. They’re betting you won’t answer.
In nearly five years of doing this, I’ve never seen one show up with a complete paper trail.
Pasting your summons into ChatGPT skips all of it.
So, my current AI story - have 2 debtors - one in NM, one in PA, trying to get around our judgments by feeding things into AI. I think one has a lawyer assisting.
Both lost Why? Because we have all the proper documentation.
AI is a good tool IF the other side doesn't have their ducks in a row. Which we do.
What makes an Answer actually work?
- Filed on time. In the right court. Nothing else matters if it’s late.
- Responds to every allegation. Silence can be treated as an admission.
- Raises your defenses NOW. Many are lost if you don’t plead them up front.
- In Texas, and many other places: a sworn denial on a sworn account. Miss it and their affidavit may be enough to beat you.
- Puts ownership and the amount squarely at issue.

Got a judgment against you from years ago?
Bank account frozen. Wages garnished. You probably think it’s over.
Yesterday I posted about one that was 3 years old. A receiver was already going after her bank account. She appealed, the judgment didn’t survive, and the debt buyer didn’t even show up to trial.
Not every old judgment can be undone. But a lot more can be done than people think.
