Steve Carell. The puppy who defied all of the odds (boy were the odds stacked against him) is PERFECT. Perfectly Wonky. His fractures were severely neglected. By the time he was rescued the breaks were nearly closed up. None of it in the right spot, but the bone had mineralized nonetheless. It is Dr Mike’s opinion, and I agree, that any reconstructive surgery would probably do more harm than good as he is up and walking around and no longer Paralyzed. he will have early onset osteoarthritis in his knees, pelvis, and sacral joints. At this point, we are weaning him off of his pain medication. We expect it to go very well. Hookworms - gone but he’s infested with tapeworms. Tapeworm eggs are easy to miss on a float test. They’re heavy and sink to the bottom. We were looking for them specifically today. The number of egg clusters is unreal. The medication that he was put on was specific for the hookworms worked. There was an obscene amount of those. Since they are gone, we are switching to a treatment targeted at the tapeworms. Expected recovery time is 30 days. His pelvis is extremely narrow. All of us are amazed that he can have normal bowel movements on his own. As he gets older, he will require a diet higher in fiber to keep things moving. Steve and I will be doing physical therapy to build back the muscle atrophy and his hind limbs. It is moderate, but not severe.
