NEW: An exclusive image shared with @axios shows a Russian satellite bearing down on a U.S.-owned spacecraft during a tense orbital incident last week.
Why it matters: The @vantortech photo shows how commercial satellites are becoming possible targets. ⬇️

Situation as of 18 Oct 0219Z. Based on TLE data from 17 Oct 0745Z so there may have been changes. With those caveats were looking at <150m separation and closing.
Cosmos 2612 just dropped its SMA and is now in position to RPO with X36 at time of Russia's choosing. Situation developing rapidly. Latest (as of early 13 Oct) here: isruniversity.com/2026/10/12…

I think this may be the most glorious footage we've seen from orbit this year. What a view! 🌏
What is your fav shot from 2025?
Per Joint Capabilities Operations Cell (JCO) reporting it appears as if China completed a significant maneuver of SY-29 (65486) on 30 Sep. The satellite (launched 5 Sep 2025) had been orbiting above the GEO graveyard orbit and drifting westward ~5.5 deg/day.
On 30 Sep, China significantly decreased SY-29's average altitude (apogee -524km and perigee -50km) nearly eliminating its westward drift. The satellite is now just above GEO at 102.18deg E longitude (centerline of mainland China) and drifting west at only 0.725 deg/day.
Looks like China's SJ-25 (62485) refueling satellite is on the move. Still appears to be docked with refueling target SJ-21 (49330). Both made HUGE inclination change from 5-9 Aug. Decreased inclination from 10.6 degrees to 5.88 degrees.
Here's the celestrak graph...celestrak.org/NORAD/elements…
Look for inclination value to be updated today/tomorrow.
Joint Commercial Operations reporting fuel requirement of ~217.76 m/sec. Will be interesting to see if China brings both satellites closer to Geostationary orbit (inclination ~0 degrees) in the coming days.
Sub 5cm imagery of newest Chinese Shijian satellite! Game changer for space object characterization. Welcome any engineering perspective of potential SJ-26 capabilities.
Russia has maneuvered Obj C (64627) on ~8 Jul. Dropped ~91km in SMA. (celestrak.org/NORAD/elements…). JCO reporting a 50km close approach with HAWK4C (52170) on 13 July if no further maneuvers from either object.
Recall Russia released Obj C from Cosmos 2558, a suspected Nivelir inspection satellite. Previous Nivelir sub-satellites have released high-velocity projectiles. For more background see: isruniversity.com/2025/07/06…
