We just launched something new: @GitBookIO Research
We host docs for thousands of teams, which gives us a rare view of how documentation actually gets read — by people and, more and more, by AI.

More and more @GitBookIO teams are using our MCP to create and manage their docs — and it's exciting to hear how flexible it’s been for different use-cases.
If you haven't tried the GitBook MCP yet, I wrote a quick guide with some best practices:

Genuinely happy this dropped. Didn't get to test it until today, installed the GitBook MCP and pointed Claude Code at @luminawidget 's docs, badly out of date after month of updates I never went back and reflected there.
No manual editing, no importing markdown files by hand, none of the usual busywork. Running it right inside the main project folder where the real documentation already lives, it just pulls whatever's current and updates the GitBook docs to match. Smile-all-over-my-face kind of simple. This is exactly the boring, unglamorous task that always gets skipped, and now it doesn't have to.
Your AI agents can now edit your docs 🤖
The GitBook MCP server is here! Connect with:
- @claudeai
- @cursor_ai
- @OpenAI
or any MCP client and let your agent draft content, open change requests, and restructure entire sites.
Docs get the most eyes and often the least attention.
July 28, 5 PM CEST: Kartik (n8n) + Addison (@GitBookIO) go live on fixing that with AI + automation. End-to-end updates, real insights, real demos. 👉Save your spot: bit.ly/4fs9Eai

Back in 2023, our State of Developer Ecosystem Survey revealed that 90% of those who write documentation don't call themselves technical writers. Has anything changed? Our friends @GitBook are trying to find out in their State of Docs Report; we can't wait to see the results.
We know how important public docs are to a product’s success. But how can we prove it?
The State of Docs Report is pulling together insights from docs experts to uncover trends and challenges, and prove the importance of docs.
