When I was 15, it made sense to me that the God of the Universe could not be a local god. Only Islam and Christianity seemed to profess to worship a universal God and so I found an English Quran and read it cover to cover. Having read both the Bible and Quran, it was pretty clear that the Islamic God offered slavery while the Christian God offered me sonship. Of course, not being a fool, I choose sonship. Muslims remain in slavery only because they are threatened with death if they dare look at the offer of sonship and reconsider things. I knew immediately I could never join such a thing.
