Good to see some of the reactions to Serbia and Brazil: that it takes dedicated organising to win an election. What will it take to change a system? To fix an economy? To challenge a deeply unfair global (dis)order? To renew a social commitment to the values Kenyans agreed represent them? Just as important, who will it take beyond politicians for this to happen? Kenya is in an argument between its past and its future - how it goes depends on who shows up to argue.

What if those entrusted with protecting public health knew the water was unsafe but the truth remained hidden? When public health is at stake, silence is not an option.

Paul Biya has been president of Cameroon since 1982. At the end of the term, he’ll be 99. Nearly half the country has known no other president. Despite serving his eighth term, he appears to spend much of his time in Switzerland. wapo.st/4i1ce9V

Prophet Golden Matonga, should we say. You were spot on bro. What a good read!
A year ago, weeks before Malawians voted in the presidential elections, IPS invited me to author a piece on the polls. In here were my predictions - not my wishes, and here, too, were my fears of what was to come. ips-journal.eu/topics/democr…

This investigation by the Platform for Investigative Journalism is deeply troubling. An American Christian NGO, 2nd Milk, allegedly raised millions in the name of feeding poor Malawian children, while much of the money reportedly went towards personal expenses. Its founders subsequently pleaded guilty to federal charges in the United States. I recently saw another NGO raising funds abroad using photographs of Malawians whose houses had been destroyed by bad weather. To my knowledge, none of those houses was ever rebuilt. Some international NGOs do genuinely commendable work. Others appear to have discovered that African poverty can be a lucrative business. pijmalawi.org/show-story/pij…

Donations meant to feed vulnerable babies funded personal luxuries. Now, the founders of 2nd Milk are headed to prison. Jason Boyd Carney has been sentenced to 16 years after diverting more than an equivalent of K3.4 billion. @CaleoneMbewe pijmalawi.org/show-story/pij…

As newshounds, we know that telling the truth is not always easy. But democracy depends on journalism that is brave enough to ask difficult questions and on journalists willing to confront power in pursuit of the truth. – at Malawi
