The contenders for the 1985 Memorial Tournament: @PGATOURLIVE’s @billykrat3, Hale Irwin and Lanny Wadkins. Irwin went on to win his second Memorial in three years.

A nice segue from the ladies’ first major - Dinah Shore (her championship is now the Chevron) introducing hall of famer Amy Alcott playing Riviera with a lucky fan in 1993. Riviera is the host of the US Women’s Open this week. Amy won 5 majors including the 1980 US Women’s Open.

It will be the 50th playing of The Memorial Tournament this week. It is also the US Women’s Open. Each year Jack honours a legend of the game so I thought it would be fitting to share this special little video. In 1991 LPGA Founder Patty Berg spoke in honour of her good friend, rival and LPGA Founder Babe Didrikson Zaharias who was the honouree that year. Dave Marr with the introduction.

Something special for Masters week. Ken Venturi, Ben Hogan, Billy Casper and Arnold Palmer hitting into the 18th green at the conclusion of the 1960 Masters. #themasters

Arnie at the 1965 Bing Crosby

Davis Love III hitting persimmon off the 18th at Kapalua in 1995. This is followed by a slow motion replay of his powerful swing with analysis by Peter Alliss.

Oakmont 1948 “After length, the second great bugaboo of Oakmont is her championship greens … rolled & packed hard as marble & the turf is shaved so close that each green becomes a patch of undulated linoleum.” Jimmy Thomson was a bomber. Steel jaws rakes created pits of despair.

Ben Hogan

It was nice to see Bob Toski interviewed this week on @ChampionsTour Learning Center. He will turn 99 years old later in the year. With the @RBCCanadianOpen on currently here is “The Mouse” at the 1959 Canadian Open.

Arnold Palmer 1962 at Troon. He successfully defended @TheOpen.

Ben Crenshaw

Bobby Jones

Bob Hope introducing his good friend Jimmy Demaret on the first episode of The Jimmy Demaret Show.

Babe Didrikson Zaharias Arguably the greatest athlete to ever play golf. Patty Berg looking on.

I recently finished a new biography on Calvin Peete by Gordon Hobson. It was an enjoyable & interesting read about a fascinating character of golf history. Calvin won more than anyone on tour between 1982-86. He is perhaps best known for leading the driving accuracy stat.. 1/3
