Another big Gulf event (ADIPEC in Abu Dhabi) roiled by war-related concerns: "One person due to be at the conference said some of the immediate security concerns were linked to fears Washington might launch further attacks against Iran on the day after the midterm elections." ft.com/content/288ccf9d-6456…

Just a vibe check: It feels like lenders have switched their tone from optimistic to more measured. Maybe a little fear creeping in. Not sure if it’s rates. Or spreads. Or existing book. Or maybe it’s the wrong read! But just a sense.

Sam Altman says the cost of a gigawatt of AI compute needs to fall from about $70 billion to $20 billion "Energy, the cost of energy should go down, the cost of chips should go down" "If it doesn't go down, I'll be very sad. But for it to go down, given how much value there is in this, supply's got to go up" "All of the gross margin stacking that happens between melting sand and giving the token back, a lot of that's got to get compressed" He says even with free materials and zero profit, $20 billion a gigawatt is only just possible on today's energy costs $NVDA $TSM $AVGO OpenAI's CEO is openly calling for a compute glut via Cheeky Pint, featuring @sama and @collision

Two worrying forecasts from @OBR_UK, not mentioned by John Healey in today’s Budget . £61bn extra borrowing revealed 26/7-30/1. Also, OBR expects #BoE to keep interest rates at 4.5-5pc from 2027-31, due to the coming inflation surge. So higher deficits & mortgage costs coming.

Samsung’s earnings next year are going to be phenomenal... Take a look at this comment from Samsung’s earnings call today. Jaejune Kim, Executive Vice President of the Memory Business in Samsung Electronics’ Device Solutions (DS) division, said on the conference call following the company’s third-quarter earnings release on the 29th: “Next year’s HBM supply is already sold out, with pricing negotiations concluded at our target levels,” adding that “requests for additional volume continue to come in.” “At our target levels”... Do you realize what that means? Korean media previously reported that Samsung had quoted HBM4 prices in the mid-to-high $4 range per gigabit (Gb). (Reference: mk.co.kr/news/business/12167…) There were also rumors that NVIDIA was pushing back because it did not want to pay those prices. But judging by Samsung’s comments today, it looks like NVIDIA has ultimately accepted Samsung’s asking price. It now appears confirmed that Samsung will be selling HBM4 at the highest price among the Big Three memory makers. We believe Rubin variants equipped with Samsung’s HBM4 will be sold as a separate, higher-priced SKU compared with those using SK hynix or Micron memory. In effect, they would command a premium.

The Harvey’s and Legora’s of the world better cash in now… Over time, the frontier models will duplicate all of the “proprietary workflows” of the legal tech cos, who are just OpenAI and Anthropic wrappers, and instead of $5K per month, you’ll get the same product for $200.
New in Claude for Legal: a gallery of ready-made artifacts for contract review, regulatory horizon scans, cite checks, and more. Start from the built-in example, add your own documents and connectors, and share it with anyone across the business.

Many parents of young kids know about OWNA. Founded 10 years ago by childhood friends Kheang Ly and Phong Trac, OWNA is the all-in-one platform that connects childcare centres with families via photo and video updates, while also giving centres a place to manage admin tasks like compliance, payments and staff management. It's now used in more than 8000 centres globally. In our second Built on @Oracle segment on the Startup360 podcast, Startup Daily editor Simon Thomsen speaks to Kheang Ly about OWNA’s growth, the role of @Oracle Cloud as they scale, and where it’s going next. UK new minimum wage: £27,456 per year. Higher-rate tax bracket: £50,270. 1.8x difference. In 1997 there was a 5x difference. Mind boggling.

It means anthropic token efficiency has suddenly skyrocketed - I think everyone’s kinda been aware they’ve been maxing out costs per requests unnaturally for a while and OpenAIs latest releases are applying cost pressures
seriously though, what does it mean when the data source that’s been perennially anti Anthropic (for structural reasons) suddenly reads extremely bullish for Anthropic?

I know it feels like a really competitive market, but Physical AI is not a zero-sum game. @AppliedInt CTO Peter Ludwig looked out at 200 founders at Dirty Jobs this year and said every one of them can win, because the markets we build in are really THAT big. He explained why we're seeing an explosion in interest across autonomy "Reinforcement Learning only got fast enough to matter in the last 12 to 18 months" The time is now. EP 104 of CLIMB 👇

Looks like Saudi plane was for evacuation? Houthis fired more missiles so if they are bribes, they didn’t work.
Lot of mediation efforts (Saudi, UAE, and Qatar) for “temporarily” opening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for one time payments to the Iranians. How does this resolve anything?

The beautiful thing about Anthropic is that 1) early investors (Spark) made bank but also it was a sufficiently large company to absorb an insane amount of venture/growth stage capital that it solved the “where do we allocate at scale” problem for investors.
Pretty great stuff from Spark (from the Anthropic S-1)

It's no wonder that normies are sceptical of AI when the industry is so full of bullshit Yeah guys, the way you do "applied AI' is by spending millions of dollars a year to add tons of headcount in the form of external consultants who will rebuild critical parts of your business for you and create massive dependency on third parties This is definitely not a scam in any way and there is nothing suspicious abot the fact that this supposedly productivity-increasing technology requires hiring tons of new headcount

Turkey's stock market just posted its 6th straight weekly loss, the longest losing streak since February 2008 The BIST 100 fell 5.16% this week to 11,117 and is now down about 23% since September 11 Friday it dropped as much as 4.6% intraday to its lowest level in about 11 months Turkish stocks have lost about ₺6 trillion ($120 billion) in market value since mid September The trigger was a fund crisis. Regulators ordered 131 investment funds holding ₺936 billion ($19 billion) into liquidation, hitting more than 455,000 investors And the selling kept going even after Turkey's central bank cut rates by 100 bps to 36% on Thursday When a rate cut can't stop a 6 week slide, the problem is trust, not rates. $TUR holders should watch whether repayments to trapped fund investors actually land
