It's been a wonderful two weeks of sporting brilliance from athletes around the world. Cambridge Alumni have competed in nearly every Summer Games since the first in 1896. So far, 369 alumni have competed in 30 different sports, including three Paralympians and 14 Winter Olympians. Together, they've racked up an impressive 210 medals! Congratulations to our alumni who won medals in this Games: 🥇 Gold: Imogen Grant (@trincollcam 2014) - Competing in the Lightweight Women's Double Scull. 🥈 Silver: Ollie Wynne-Griffith and Tom George (@peterhouse_cam 2021) - Competing in the Rowing Men's Pair. Amy Hunt (@corpuscambridge 2020) - Competing in the Women's 4x100m relay 🥉 Bronze: Freddie Davidson (@EmmaCambridge 2017) - Competing as part of the Rowing Men's Four. Henry Fieldman (@homertoncollege 2012) - Cox for the Rowing Women's 8. Commiserations to those who didn't – we're so incredibly proud your efforts 👏 Pictures: 1. Good to see the Sunday Times giving credit where it is due to Keir Starmer and the government for its handling of the riots. Tory leadership candidates who tried to play petty politics with this at the start of the week disgraced themselves and shamed their shameless party

For what it’s worth “This morning, The New York Times reports it’s even worse down in Mar-a-Lago. Trump is attacking donors, throwing his running mate under the bus, and lashing out at staff. He is unfocused, unprepared, and incapable of delivering any positive message for the American people.”

I have long supported freedom of speech, but within the law. The laws are set by democratically-elected governments. They must always prevail over foreign billionaires.

Woop woop! Delighted to announce that @SCM_Press have been able to bring our book publication forward to the end of this month. AND they've reduced the price to £25 (though the website may not reflect that yet). @mariacpower and I are thrilled! scmpress.hymnsam.co.uk/books…

The inspiration for T.G. Jackson’s 1887 staircase leading to the hall he built at Hertford College (with Palladian style windows) was the monumental staircase commissioned by François I for his Château de Blois, an appropriate model for for the renaissance of an Oxford college
