Steelcase Amia vs Leap v2 (Is it worth an extra $400)
I get a ton of questions asking about the differences between the Amia and the Leap V2, and a lot of it comes down to price. New, it's $1,099 for the Amia vs. about $1,499 for the Leap V2.
Used on Facebook Marketplace, you're looking at maybe $200 for an Amia and $300 to $400 for a Leap V2. So the question usually is if you can get away with the Amia, or do you really need to upgrade?
**Key differences IMO**
**Lumbar and Backrest:** The Leap has adjustable depth and height lumbar support. The Amia has height adjustment and less flex overall.
**Tilt:** The Leap has a tilt limiter. The Amia only locks upright or tilts the full range. I just set the tension for my weight and with the natural friction in the mechanism it holds fine.
**Seat:** The Leap seat is more contoured, with about a half inch more drop from front to back. The Amia is flatter, and for me personally, it's more comfortable. That's why I built the Lamia, which is an Amia seat on a Leap.
**Height Range:** The Leap V2 maxes out from 5’2” up to 6'4" to 6'5". The Amia is closer to 5’2” up to about 6'2" to 6'3". The Amia is a bit narrower in the seat as well.
So if you like the upgraded mechanism on Leap with additional lumbar support it’s probably worth the upgrade. If you’ve already bought the Leap and don’t love the seat it might be worth checking out the Amia. Let me know if you have more questions.
