Jeff Ellis questioned whether Austin Hedges will return to Cleveland, suggesting the Guardians could move on if his strong offensive season leads to offers beyond their budget for a backup catcher who would play limited innings. "Cody Huff, he's earned the opportunity. But if he struggles, I hate losing the safety net. Maybe I'm giving too much value to [Austin] Hedges, but I do get the logic overall, and I also just hate losing Hedges. I do wonder, too, if this idea that Hedges isn't coming back is something of the team setting themselves up in case Hedges gets offers beyond that normal $4 million. If, because of what he did offensively, all of a sudden he's gonna get $6 or $7 or $8 million offers because catching is so hard to find, if he gets a big offer, we're gonna maybe move on already. I can't blame them because you can't spend resources like that on a guy who's going to play at most 30— no, 25% of the time. At most 25% of the time." (via @LockedGuardians)

Erik Beaston of Bleacher Report questioned the Guardians’ potential decision to trade Steven Kwan, warning that losing a productive hitter could make it harder for Cleveland to contend before its playoff window closes. "While the Guardians may be keen on finding a trade partner in hopes of maximizing their returns for Kwan, the team's playoff window will inevitably close, and getting rid of a prolific hitter who can put the team in scoring position every time he heads to the plate may expedite the process. Attempting to get over the hump and do so without Kwan would make the task that much more difficult to achieve." (bleacherreport.com/articles/…)

Adam Gerstenhaber explained that retaining Stephen Vogt is very important for the Guardians because managerial continuity strengthens relationships, improves player familiarity, and balances analytics with human insight. "I think [managerial continuity is] very important. One, you have these relationships. You spend so much time together in the locker room, more than any other sport. Those relationships are super important. Plus, when you've been with the team longer, you know the players better. These are important things to know. Sometimes we think with analytics, that gives you all the answers, but the organizations that blend analytics with gut or heart or knowledge, human touch, those are the organizations that have the most success. So I think it's extremely important that they kept that continuity." (via @ultCLEsports)

Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com believes the Guardians have not completely closed the door on bringing Austin Hedges back, despite Patrick Bailey being the expected starting catcher. "First, let’s see how the free-agent season unfolds. Second, Patrick Bailey is going to be the starting catcher. Others competing for the backup job include David Fry and prospects Cooper Ingle and Kody Huff. During Cleveland’s postseason run, Huff traveled with the big-league club. However, I don’t think the Guardians have completely closed the door on Hedges returning." (cleveland.com/guardians/2026…)

Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com identified the Guardians’ pitching staff as their biggest offseason need, stressing that Cleveland must strengthen its rotation. "They’re a little short in the rotation and their bullpen is fried. Every year they fry this bullpen and some guys make it back, some guys don’t. You’re going to have to add some arms again to that pen." (cleveland.com/guardians/2026…)

Chris Antonetti made it clear that the Guardians expect Steven Kwan to remain a key part of their contending team next season, praising his performance, leadership and second-half turnaround. “As we sit here today, we’re expecting Steven Kwan to be a big part of a contending team next year," Antonetti said. “We were talking about our appreciation for the year he had. The way he was able to turn around his season, how much we appreciate his on-field performance, his leadership, and our expectation that he’s going to be here moving forward.” (cleveland.com/guardians/2026…)

Zack Meisel of The Athletic revealed that Guardians pitching coach Carl Willis will return for another season, with the team expecting its entire coaching staff to remain in Cleveland. "Vogt and Antonetti said they expect the entire coaching staff to return, with the caveat that another team could ask to interview someone for a better position. That includes Willis, the heralded pitching coach who will turn 66 in December. Willis has taken some time to decide in recent winters, but he indicated to the Guardians in recent weeks that he was leaning toward continuing his career. He confirmed that decision this week." Stephen Vogt expressed excitement about the Guardians’ young core, praising five rookies for their contributions to the postseason run and their determination to return and win it all next year. "It's hard to describe the feeling of going 100 miles an hour for eight months, and then all of a sudden you hit a brick wall, and your season's over. To see Parker, Travis, Chase, Angel, Petey, to see those five go on that run and be integral parts of that run, it gets you very excited for what's to come in the future. In talking to all five of them and hearing them debrief the season, all they spoke about was, 'I can't wait to get back because we're winning it next time.' It's one thing to get to the big leagues as a player and experience success in your first year as an individual; it's another thing to do both, to have individual success and experience what it's like to play meaningful games late into October. That could take them so far." (via @MasonHorodyski)

Adam Gerstenhaber criticized Tanner Bibee’s second-half struggles, saying the Guardians were justified in not using him during the postseason and that he should not hold any resentment toward the organization. "He stunk. He's got to be self-aware. Like I was advocating for him pitching in Game 6, but I completely understand why they didn't pitch him at all. And yes, they used everybody else more than him. And so maybe there's part of him that's frustrated, but if he's realistic about what he's been the second half of this season, he has to understand. So I can't imagine there's bad blood. He'll be better next year, but he should have no ill will towards the organization at all. I think it's ridiculous if he does." (via @ultCLEsports)

Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com believes the Guardians are getting closer to their first World Series title since 1948, pointing to the growth of Parker Messick, the potential of Chase DeLauter and other young prospects, and Gavin Williams’ emergence as a Cy Young candidate. "Is it a stretch to believe the Guardians are inching closer to not only the World Series for the first time since 2016, but also perhaps winning it? Messick learned so much this year and he’ll be ready for next October. Williams is a Cy Young candidate right now. DeLauter, Bazzana, Martinez, Halpin and Angel Genao had their moments. They have some oxymoron players — young veterans — as well in Bailey, David Fry, Rocchio and Adell, who is still under contract through 2027." (cleveland.com/guardians/2026…)
