The Hampshire Individual Chess Championship for 1969 was a success for the young Seth Saverymuttu who finished ahead of Gerald Bennett and Marshall Thompson. An article based on the one from the Hampshire Bulletin including more than 20 games is available.

Not posted on social media for a while, but work has continued on the website. Just posted a report on the 1965/66 SCL Individual. This benefited from games available on Britbase and includes at least one player still playing for Hampshire.

Spent the last week ticking off a bucket list item by playing abroad. 9 games in 6 days in the Menorca Open, with 5 wins, 2 losses, and 2 draws. Played a couple of decent games and pleased with the experience.

I have been adding oldish Southampton Chess League results to the website, but have now picked up on the County Season, with the 1948/49 added. After winning the SCCU Hampshire the previous year, could Hampshire repeat this success?

After badgering Tony for several years he has sent me his Correspondence Chess games for the website, these include several which were published in BCM. Tony had great success in the time before computers became dominant in correspondence chess.

When I ran the HCA website I had a games page, where players sent me their games. I felt bad that these are no longer available, as the HCA website changed webmasters. I am starting to add some and the first game is a 2008 one by FM Moses Kawuma.

Malcolm Clarke has long been associated with Hants and SCL chess. His career started in the 1970’s, when he played for Eastleigh, but he also played in London for several years. Recently he has been captaining and secretary of Chandler’s Ford chess club.

The Portsmouth News "Chess Notes" articles for the following year are now on the website. There are still missing years, but hopefully these will be added when available. After 1997 these seemed to drop off, but I will add any which are relevant.

In the 1938/39 county chess season Hants had just three county matches. This was the last season of Match Captain Francis Elwell, who despite being 80 still scored 2 points from 3 games in the County matches, and won the Southampton Club championship.

Very small post on the 1990 Hampshire Individual added, this is pretty much based on two of the weekly chess note articles in the Portsmouth Evening News. Tony Corkett won his 2nd title.

Slowly adding the Chess Note articles from the Portsmouth News as they are made available. Articles from 1990 are the most recent, joining the 1988/89 ones added recently. These cover Hampshire Chess activities, concentrating on the Portsmouth area.
