Some takeaways:
-Not happy w/ performance tonight, but guys are unhappy too. Not a group he has to lay into
-Playing that quick after Fof68 opener could have played effect, but doesn’t believe in excuses
-JRT just really getting warmed up. Lots to come from him
-If we repeat tonight on Sat — we’ll lose

You got to give that Simon Sez guy some credit…he’s been doing the same show for like 20 years and people still love it.

New Dedmon Center points record and the largest margin of victory in program history!

Two things can be true tonight:
1) College basketball happens. UMES +34.5 was a bonkers line for two D1 teams. I don’t think tonight is anything but a chance to get some film and grow as team.
2) The way the NET works if High Point is going to make a serious mid-major at-large NCAA push it can’t sleep walk through many, if any, of their opponents.
Not ready to sound any alarms yet but High Point has had more turnovers than assists in both games this season which already matches the total times it happened (2) in all 36 games last season.
Honestly its Wednesday, I didn’t even play and I’m still recovering from Sunday night. #NotAnExcuse #ImJustSayin
JRT self lob off the backboard dunks in warm ups is something.
1:23 to tip here in the Qubein Center.

According to KenPom there are allegedly 150 defenses better than Liberty. After watching them up close last night I find that VERY hard to believe.
Wouldn’t surprise me if they swept their games in Greenbrier. Shouldn’t be shocking given their coach, but they look ahead of schedule. #fieldof68 #hpu #liberty
Field of 68 kickoff in Rock Hill may not be what college basketball fans wanted.
But it’s what college basketball fans deserve.
And more than that, it’s what college basketball fans needed. I love it. 🏀🏀🏀
Thoughts on tonight from Rock Hill:
Unbelievable crowd, great atmosphere, Liberty brought the noise and so did HPU. Rock Hill brought the 2 dollar slim jims at the concession stand.
1) Going up against the Pack Line defense (no way to simulate this in practice) I felt like there was a chance HPU took a hit early (and they did) but the determining factor was how they responded. Not necessarily how you want to play every game but compared to last year the response to the physicality (and whistle) was strong and overall more composed. It’s clear Flynn is learning a thing or two there.
2) So far it’s obvious the team has great buy in and being able to bring an elite bench lineup in early was difference, not only as a spark early, but later in the game when Liberty was much more gassed than us.
3) High Point has now played Liberty, UNCW and ETSU….all very physical, yet different, defenses and that should be valuable as they move forward.
4) On a team full of DUDES, Conrad Martinez and Trey Pearson may be the biggest DUDES. Absolutely love how they dawg opponents defensively and how it translates to offense.
5) I thought the whole team overall did a solid job playing within themselves offensively even though Liberty forced us into some late shot clock situations. There were very few early possession turnovers or bad shots.
6) The Liberty fanbase is passionate, give them credit, but they are a fun bunch to beat. I’ll leave it at that.
7) I’m back to not knowing what a travel is or whether two hands on a ball handler is a foul. Also the inconsistency from one official to another within a game still bugs me. Thought part of the crew tonight was great though.
8) Overall a pretty fun experience. After two years of kicking it off in a neutral across the border I’m kind of partial towards getting an opponent in the Qubein Center to open next season.
Go Panthers! 🟣🏀🐈⬛
