My favourite tidbit is how during Star Trek he kept going to the producers “I want to have more romance and sex and I want to punch more people and I want to ride a dune buggy and be in a sleeveless shirt and show my muscles.” And they did all that. What a man. Rest in piece.

"Every shared virtual environment inhabited by young men inevitably hosts deathmatch."
Generational quote here.
I am hesitant to weigh in on discussions about 30+ year old details. I understand enough about memory in general, and mine in particular, to not have great confidence about it. I generally trust Romero’s memory more than mine — I was always a bit jealous of that capability.
In broad terms, multiplayer gaming was right up there with 3D gaming in my grand visions of what I wanted to accomplish. The early FPS games were very much “first person Gauntlet”, and Gauntlet had multiplayer.
I do clearly remember the first time I got two computers running Doom taking to each other. Moving around on one computer and seeing the character move on the other screen was sublime. And then, of course, I shot the other character. Every shared virtual environment inhabited by young men inevitably hosts deathmatch.
I suspect the confusion here may be around the fraction of people that originally bought Doom because of multiplayer. It was almost certainly well under 10%. Maybe under 1%. It wrecked some college networks, but most people didn’t have Ethernet cards or null modem cables. We probably did have some conversations correctly predicting that. Deathmatch was awesome, but most of our players never got to experience it.
Even four games later for Quake 3 Arena, being “deathmatch focused” was a huge internal battle, and not at all obviously viable.
A hardcore tactical Left4Dead when you have to survive/loot/ and transit across all the maps to extract and survive.
God think of the fun.
Named Mob
A St Louis woman has caught a recording breaking fish in British Columbia.
It's an 11 ft. 4 in. white sturgeon.
It's officially the largest freshwater fish ever caught by a female angler at 1,200 pounds.
The fish was tagged and released.
Hear Katharine Eckert tell The Chris & Amy show all about this wild experience!
My favorite part of these events is this reference. Very NSFW 🫡 Bub youtu.be/QP-HQGnzejo?si=8DDq…
Probably the best camera app I’ve ever spent money on.
So I recently badgered my cinematographer @steveyedlin into making my ideal iPhone still camera app. It shoots RAW, bypasses the iPhone's look processing and instead uses the same image processing we use on our movies. apps.apple.com/app/apple-sto…

People often ask how my #gameassets are made, it's actually pretty simple.
Did people really think they were only doing an arena event? Lol
Tomorrow, October 29 at 7:00 AM GMT / 3:00 AM EDT, we are planning to install patch 1.3.0.0 for #EscapefromTarkov.
The installation will take between 5 and 7 hours, but may be extended if required. The game will be unavailable during this time.
