Hamilton, ON, citizens know what our Union and Local 107 members have known for a long time: outsourcing public transit is bad for transit, riders, and communities. thespec.com/news/council/sur… #canlab @OFLabour

Thank you @CameronKroetsch!
Council will be voting on the operations of the LRT this Wednesday and I'll be asking my colleagues to vote down staff's recommendation so I can introduce the motion that Councillor @NrinderWard3 and I tried to put forward in January. Keep transit public. #HamOnt @keeptransitpub

"“It would seem that even among people who may not have supported the concept of an LRT to begin with, now that it’s coming, would rather have the HSR operate it than some unknown private corporation,” said Anthony Marco, Hamilton and District Labour Council president."
A recent survey found that the majority of Hamiltonians would prefer to see the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) operate the city's future light-rail transit system rather than a private contractor. Click on the photo below to read more. chch.com/majority-of-hamilto…

Today we held a press conference where local leaders spoke on city council's upcoming decision regarding LRT operations. We said it in 2014, we said it in 2017, and we're saying it again: we need to keep transit public in this city.

Not surprised that 67% of those surveyed support the City operating LRT. I’ll be bringing back my amendment to recommend just that to Metrolinx at the April 17 meeting of the General Issues Committee. I hope my Council colleagues will support keeping transit public. #HamOnt

The solution to #HamOnt area rating for transit is simple...end area rating for transit. Or if we really need a committee solution for transportation equity city wide - start area rating for roads.

Important insight re: the upcoming operations decision and delays. This decision is not delaying the LRT.
Replying to @alexzafer
This will not delay things in any way. We’re required to make a recommendation to Metrolinx. What we recommend is up to us and what they approve is up to them. The only delay so far has been the Mayor pushing this forward by about a month + the cybersecurity incident.
