Vaccines cause adults.
Vaccines account for 40% of the decline in infant mortality over the last 50 years. Infant mortality rates have plummeted over the last 50 years. Globally, they’ve fallen by over two-thirds, from around 10% in 1974 to less than 3% today. A recent study — published in The Lancet by Andrew Shattock and an international team of researchers — estimates that 40% of this decline has been driven by increased access to crucial vaccines. The chart shows the actual reduction in infant mortality rates with vaccination (in blue) and the researchers’ estimates for a hypothetical scenario in which vaccines wouldn’t have been rolled out (in red). Based on these figures, vaccines are estimated to have saved 150 million children over the last 50 years. (This Daily Data Insight was written by @_HannahRitchie.)

My first time being featured in an editorial about our new paper on kids’ mental health prescribing, a topic I’m passionate about, especially now that I have a little one of my own. – at Sydney, New South Wales
The rise in prescribing and dispensing rates for psychotropic medications for children and adolescents cannot be entirely attributable to the pandemic, and further research is needed to learn why certain prescribing patterns have emerged ow.ly/6CYa50OyHgT

This paper has been a labour of love to get out into the world during parental leave. The results highlight the impact of the pandemic on kids’ mental health and the important role of GPs to fill gaps in mental health services. @DxInformatics – at Sydney, New South Wales
New research in @theMJA shows that while rates of psychotropic medication prescribing by GPs for children has been increasing since 2018, the peak rates reached during the pandemic were higher than forecast. GPs were critical to mental health support. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…
