My First Bitcoin is restructuring around its Education Network: a smaller team, lower costs, and a single focus—empowering those who empower others. This is how we scale the mission: we will make it easier for bitcoin educators to get started, and likelier for them to succeed, by building the materials, infrastructure and community a global movement needs. This is the final step in a years-long transition from direct educator to global infrastructure. My First Bitcoin becomes what the movement needs its center to be: lean, focused, and in service of 213 independent educators and 80+ education projects across 48 countries, each teaching or preparing to teach their own community, in their own language, on their own terms. The whole My First Bitcoin team is now fully dedicated to growing this Education Network.  Full announcement in comments.

For Bitcoin to grow beyond charts and market cycles, people need to understand why it matters. That happens through education. One educator can reach a classroom. One classroom can influence families. Those families can change a community. And when communities have the knowledge and tools to educate themselves, Bitcoin becomes something bigger than an asset people buy. That’s why we empower independent educators around the world and why our work is funded by the community we serve: the Bitcoin community. Help us create more Bitcoiners, not just more headlines. Support the movement. donate.myfirstbitcoin.org

With what’s happening right now, Bitcoin education is more important than ever. That was the theme of last week’s episode of the Fedi Community Chat with @ReynaChicas2 of @MyFirstBitcoin_. ICYMI, the episode is now live on YouTube. Link in the thread.

A better world isn't just coming, its already here if you know where to look The unconfrence with @bitcoinindo21 on Aug 22 will be one such place But if you can't make it ro Indonesia next week, catch the documentary... Onward!
Without Bitcoin events and meet-ups I don’t think I would be as inspired as I am to build on bitcoin. While the general vibe is as low as it is I’ve never been more bullish. Tonight I fly to Indonesia to film episode 2 of the @MyFirstBitcoin_ Bigger Than Bitcoin series. 🎥

There is exactly one piece of information that can empty your Bitcoin wallet: your backup phrase. Nobody needs it typed into a website. Not Blink. Not "Blink support." Not any wallet asking you to "verify," "restore," or "sync." New blog post on backup phrase phishing and the one rule that keeps you safe: blink.sv/blog/backup-phrase-…

We're inspired by the work that the team at Bitcoin Amantikir (@bitcoinamantiki) does with their community members in Brazil 🇧🇷. They teach Bitcoin as a tool of empowerment, something that dovetails well with the organisation's broader philosophy, which is centred around self-sovereignty and lowering one's time preference.

What we love most about communities is how they take action to solve their problems. And as @Modibe_ said in the Fedi Community Chat episode with Bright of @bitspenda, builders in these communities don’t wait for institutions to come and solve their problems. They build tools to tackle them. Click the link in the thread to learn how Bright solved the problem he identified in his community and went on to build Bitspenda.

A few months ago, most of our work was about teaching students directly. Now it’s shifting. We’re now focused on helping others teach. And that changes everything! We tried to summarize this amazing transformation of My First Bitcoin in our Impact Report Q1: • Global network growth — 83 communities across 46 countries. • Nairobi Unconference — 500 people, real energy on the ground. • The Core (Kenya) — how educators create educators. • Education Programs now in 40+ languages, powered by new AI-infrastructure. • News Program: Bitcoin For Juniors. • Educator training becoming the main focus • Transparent breakdown of finances. • What’s next — Events in Prague, Surabaya, Medellín • First episode of our documentary filmed in Kenya. If you want to go deeper, the full report (and podcast) is out now. myfirstbitcoin.org/impact-re…

@MyFirstBitcoin_ began 5 years ago And what a wild half decade it’s been So many of the details have changed but the north star has always been that if individuals have more control over their own life it leads to a better world and that bitcoin education is a means to that end It has been a journey, with literal blood sweat and tears throughout. We’ve managed to kick quite a few hornet’s nests along the way which has been exhausting, even scary But the objective is to disrupt the status quo, so while specific manifestations have been surprising that they happened was always expected. Though knowing the theory and living the reality are very different things I’ve learned so much about myself and about the world on this journey The path forward continues to be rocky. Change comes from discomfort and ambition, it always has But that path is also as clear as it’s ever been Five years on and the why remains the same. Five years on and the what and the how come into focus Independent, open-source bitcoin education will change the world Onward!

Fedi supports trusted-access programs for open-source defenders. Those protecting critical infrastructure need to see new capabilities before they meet them in an attack. We're proud to join @blocks, @lightning, and many others in signing @bitcoinpolicy's open letter.
Today, Bitcoin Policy Institute and a broad coalition from across the digital-asset ecosystem are publishing an open letter calling on the world’s leading AI labs to provide qualified open-source defenders with trusted access to frontier AI models. The past several weeks have made the need for this abundantly clear. The people defending digital-asset infrastructure and open-source software need access to the latest AI capabilities to perform comprehensive security reviews and stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated adversaries. The coalition includes open-source development organizations, major custodians, treasury companies, payment services, security firms, capital allocators, and others whose businesses and customers depend on the integrity of open-source infrastructure and libraries. Open-source defenders often occupy the least privileged position in the AI security landscape. They have limited access to the strongest internal cyber models and are frequently blocked by guardrails when using publicly available frontier systems for legitimate security research. As a result, they often resort to less capable open-weight alternatives. We are urging frontier AI labs to establish a clear, trusted pathway for qualified open-source and digital asset defenders to access their strongest capabilities, with sufficient compute and secure environments to conduct meaningful security reviews. Frontier AI could become one of the most powerful defensive technologies ever developed, but only if defenders get fair access to those systems. It’s time to give defenders the tools they deserve. Read the open letter, add your organization, or sign as an individual on our website at btcpolicy.org/ailetter

After the Coldcard entropy story, a lot of you asked the obvious follow-up: how does Jade handle this? So we went and read @BlockstreamJade‘s own breakdown, plus the source code. Here's the short version. The risk is the same for every hardware wallet: a private key is only as safe as the randomness used to create it. If that randomness is weak, an attacker doesn't need to steal your device… they can just guess. Jade's answer is to never rely on a single source. While the device is running, it continuously pulls entropy from several independent places at once: → User interaction — button presses and the wheel → CPU counters → Battery state → Ambient temperature → Several camera frames captured during boot: even pointed at a blank desk, the sensor noise is usable randomness → A built-in hardware random number generator → Entropy contributed by the companion app on your phone One detail worth knowing: Jade's hardware RNG partly draws from the device's radio. Run the "No-Radio" firmware and you lose that input… so Blockstream compensates by sampling raw radio noise once at boot, before the radio is disabled, and folding it into the mix anyway. All of this feeds into an accumulator modeled on the same approach Bitcoin Core uses: a 32-byte internal state, updated by hashing itself together with fresh entropy through SHA-512. The hash output is split… half becomes the new internal state, half is handed off to generate your recovery phrase. That hashing runs constantly, including every time you touch a button. Two things stand out compared to a single-source design: 1. There's no one point of failure. If one sensor is noisy, biased, or misconfigured, the others still contribute. 2. New entropy is always added on top of the old, never used to replace it… so state never gets "reset" to something weaker. It's not a guarantee against every possible flaw: no design is. But it's a meaningfully different risk model than depending on one RNG path end-to-end, which is exactly the assumption that broke down elsewhere this year.
