Very happy that my first article, '"They are not muslims. They are monsters": the accidental takfirism of British political elites', has been published in Critical Studies on Terrorism. Thanks to @DrJackHolland and @GordonClubb for their advice and to the editor, @LeeJarvisPols.

I've started a substack with theological reflections on global politics. I'll be writing on the themes of my new book Security After Christendom. I begin with two short essays placing the US elections in historical & theological contexts. open.substack.com/pub/johnhe…

🧵 How did 9/11 change international relations as a discipline? One of the interesting questions about this subject is how 9/11 has been constructed after the event itself. Here are three articles from our archives that explore this topic in different ways 👇

Interesting discussion about the local and global in contemporary jihad, with people I like to read on both sides... Some ramblings...
This is problematic. Yes JNIM and IS-Sahel are part of global networks, but we know that a)recruitment is locally driven b) commanders often do their own things c) the success and failures of these insurgencies (and they are insurgencies) are dependent on local/regional contexts.

Gente, I am thrilled to finally share with you a piece of my PhD. In this article, you will find one of the few cases where refugees are met with seemingly 'welcoming' and open doors. Desecuritisation is possible but fragile. Download the article to find out more: 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾

#POL3000 #SOC2092 #SOC3092 A run through of recent IS messaging in al-Naba magazine
ISIS has warned Muslims not to be “manipulated” and “misled” by mainstream media in Muslim countries who it said “selectively” focus on “the plight” of Muslims in some areas over others, based on their “agendas”. This came in the editorial of IS's weekly newspaper al-Naba/1

#SOC2092 #SOC3092 A thread and article on long range stand off terrorism relevant to our future discussions on the role of new technologies but also to the debates around definition as it highlights the potentially blurred boundaries between terrorism and other forms of violence.
New CTC Sentinel cover article - “Going the Distance: The Emergence of Long-Range Stand-Off Terrorism” - that I put together released today. It is part of a new Sentinel “On The Horizon” series we have launched. Thread w some background & highlights ctc.westpoint.edu/going-the-…
