An important thread. I'll add: in #BrainGym, we've been teaching people how to sit in their "just right" positions for 40 years. It's a wrestle to "fix" things after after they're broken. Why not begin early on to guide kids to sit comfortably in gravity? #MovetoLearn
"Sitting is the new smoking." If you sit more than 6 hours a day, you're killing your body and destroying your health. Here are 4 ways you can adjust your desk set up to reverse the damages of sitting:

This is such an important consideration when thinking about how learning happens. It's not about being a luddite or a technophobe or being wedded to the past, or not embracing change; it's about recognising that handwriting has a markedly different impact on the brain.

Drawing & writing hold the power to activate fluid reciprocal thumb-finger motion. When a pencil is held properly, the fingers naturally move it toward the midline; the thumb moves it away. A stiff thumb acts as a brake, inhibiting the back & forth of fluent motion. #BrainGym

The Double Doodle is a simple bi-lateral activity: Draw with both hands, as in finger painting, yet letting the hands mirror one another. This prompts reciprocal thumb-finger motion, centralization of vision, coordination of visual and fine-motor movement, and more. #MovetoLearn

I love to draw. Yet in 4th grade, while learning to write, my fingers/wrist often felt tense as I wrote or drew. When I learned #BrainGym as an adult, I realized that I used my thumb as a brake. Doing the #DoubleDoodle restored fluid reciprocal motion between my thumb & fingers.

In #BrainGym we teach people to #DoubleDoodle—to draw with both hands simultaneously. We use this activation of both hemispheres to prompt cognition, help centralize both eyes in the visual midfield, provide novel stimulus, & facilitate hand motion for #dexterity. #MovetoLearn
Exercise Your Brain with Non-Dominant Hand Training: • Using your non-dominant hand for simple tasks creates new neural pathways • May help prevent cognitive decline • Improves brain plasticity • As little as 5 minutes daily shows benefits Ready to switch hands? #brainhealth

Yes, contralateral motion (as in walking) boosts brain function. Add the diversity of nature and all the ways it prompts your visual experience—every moment new and unique. If you can't get out for a walk, you can always do a few minutes of #CrossCrawl. #BrainGym #MovetoLearn
A Stanford study finds that walking improves brain function & enhances creativity. Try walking different routes to expose your brain to novel stimuli. Walking is meditation in motion!

Wonderful to discover the magic of our hands—to play, to create, to make nourishing food. In #BrainGym, we give the littles (or bigs) who have difficulty simple moves like Lazy 8s and the Double Doodle that activate eye-hand coordination. #MovetoLearn #Teach4WellBeing

Weight bearing activities build bones; children reach their peak bone-building years by late teens. Engage them in motor skills that switch on proprioception and allow for a healthy range of movement, like the Cross Crawl, Calf Pump, Footflex. #BrainGym #MovetoLearn #Stressbuster
