We made it to $10,000 in less than 24 hours yesterday to support @RedCross_NC operations in North Carolina. Can you help us get to $15,000? bit.ly/orangeforwnc β at Carrboro, NC
Join locals in giving to the North Carolina chapter of the American Red Cross to support hurricane relief operations for our neighbors in WNC. Youβll see this poster (with QR code) at the #Carrboro Music Festival today. Or give directly at americanredcross.donordrive.β¦. #OrangeForWNC

It's that time again. September's Cycle in for Coffee will be this Friday, Sept. 13, from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. on the back patio of @OpenEyeCafe. Come start your day right by talking about all things bikes with others who love to do the same. New students and new residents welcome!

This weekβs Economist cover story is brought to you by US automakers and regulators, both of whom have been ignoring car bloat for decades.

Permitting motorists to turn right on a red light at most urban and suburban intersections is deadlier for pedestrians. Weβve known this for 40 years.

NOTICE: Tomorrow's CYCLE IN FOR COFFEE at @OpenEyeCafe is POSTPONED Due to predicted rains, wind, and flooding from Hurricane Debby, we are postponing our Cycle in for Coffee until next week. Stay safe everyone!
Why every road improvement shouldn't be "data driven."
Cary sought feedback on a road diet here 10 yrs ago, "but residents felt it wasnβt necessary, feedback that has changed [since the fatality]." It took the life of a child to make this a priority.

I'd love to vote for a complete street project with a dedicated bus lane, protected bike lanes, and sidewalks. Please tell me where to look for that project @NCDOT!
Have you voted for your favorite multimodal transportation project yet?
Don't miss out! Remember, voting wraps up on Aug 7 π³οΈ bit.ly/3pmHJzt
You would think that one solution would be for @USDOT to stop funding highway expansions and to put all of those $$ into mass transit. And for our legislature to stop acting like EVs are the ultimate answer.
USDOT report confirms: highway expansions are climate disasters.
"America cannot meet its goals to decarbonize the transportation sector by switching to EVs without reducing how much Americans drive, according to a new USDOT report sent up to Congress"

Take the bus. Live longer.
New UK study finds that older people are significantly less likely to die (of all causes) if they ride transit.
"Those using public transport every day or nearly every day [have] 41% lower mortality" than those who never do.

If youβre riding a bike eastbound on W Main Street in Durham, beware the new sinkhole at Five Points! Iβve already submitted it to Durham One Call @movesafedurham
When people say the bicyclist must pay his "fair share" for use of the road, I wonder if they realize what that looks like.

Texas widened I-10 from 8 lanes to 22 in 2005. Travel times INCREASED by 33% afterwards.
They only spent $2.8 billion to do so. When you spend billions to get the opposite effect of what you intend, how is this not government waste?

NEW: Phoenix police officer pulls over a driverless Waymo car for driving on the wrong side of the road leading the nonexistent driver to roll the windows down to speak with the police.
This is hilarious.
Waymo has since released a statement, apparently blaming the incident on "inconsistent construction signage."
The car "was blocked from navigating back into the correct lane" for about 30 seconds when the officer pulled it over.
"In an effort to clear the intersection, the Waymo vehicle proceeded forward a short distance and pulled into the next available parking lot," the company said.
PSA: if you are heading up to Weaver Street for the 4th, the Fitch parking lot is still closed from repaving. Remember, donβt park at WSM if you are going to walk in the parade, or you will be towed! @CarrboroGov
Interested in telling NCDOT what you want to see them do for the future of transportation? Here is your chance. For the next 2 weeks (until July 17), we can give feed back via a map/survey. Here's what I found while doing the survey for Orange County. 1/
All bike, ped, & transit projects added up to a total cost to NCDOT of $568,025,092. The DOT cost of widening the OC portion of NC 54 to 4 lanes is $610,100,000. So for the cost of one project that we don't need, we could fund every bike/ped/transit project in the County. 2/
I wrote a how-to guide for giving feedback for @triblogblog, with a video to help. Let NCDOT know we want bike/ped/transit projects (rail, too!) bit.ly/4crpwHA
