Excited to finally share this data from my residency research project! Found low rates of MRSA and PsA as causes of CAP at our institution and identified areas for improvement in diagnostic stewardship/empiric treatment.

Safety net hospital finds low incidence of MRSA & PsA in CAP patients. Understanding local resistance patterns is crucial for targeting antibiotic therapy & reducing unnecessary broad-spectrum use. @helenpharmd @nsmang @jloomisyo @jkortwine @wenningID

MRSA nares screening can reliably be used for de-escalation of anti-MRSA therapy within 28 days of bacterial culture for all patients, including transplant recipients and patients with neutropenia.
⭐NPV = 95.8% across all anatomical culture sites

Not looking forward to seeing the implications of this 😖
Due to supply disruptions, the @US_FDA recommends laboratories and health care providers conserve the supply of BD BACTEC blood culture media bottles for patients at highest risk. Learn more in our Letter to Health Care Providers: fda.gov/medical-devices/lett…
Does anyone work at or know of hospitals that use Labcorp or another third party lab for internal microbiology processing? If so, would love to get connected!
It’s so good to know all of the hard work has finally paid off 🥹 #BCIDP
Has anyone actually experienced treatment failure with dapto combo tx with bacteriostatic agents (e.g., doxy, linezolid) in MRSA BSI c/b lung involvement?
There’s some in vitro stuff suggesting an antagonistic effect. How concerned should we really be?

My coworker @dosyn_zosyn received this gem from his student today. This may be the most iconic thing to have happened in ID pharmacy history!!! Which one is your fave?

Late post, but excited to share our review on the available data for PO antibiotics in the treatment of serious bacterial infections including endocarditis and bacteremia! @jkortwine @WenningID @nsmang @brent_on_hall

Nearly 2x as much treatment failure at 14 days when using cefdinir, compared to cephalexin which has substantially better bioavailability and urinary concentrations in lower UTIs. Makes sense! #downwithcefdinir
Cefdinir V🔥 Cephalexin in lower UTI
🆕️⚡️⚡️Small retrospective study @AJHPOfficial
There were no significant differences in treatment failure at d7 or d14 between the agents
Numerically higher rate of treatment failure with cefdinir #downwithcefdinir

Patient admitted for pneumonia, sputum cx +MSSA, ESBL (resistant to all oral options), PsA. What option are you going with?
78%Meropenem monotherapy
8%Meropenem + Cefazolin
8%Meropenem + Linezolid
8%Other (please comment)

Removed cefdinir from our adult formulary and switched to cefuroxime. Here’s why! #downwithcefdinir

Abnormal urinalysis c/w UTI and u/a c/w UTI should be banned from the medical vernacular
Do you use “fever” as a verb?
Just learned that not everyone has “fevering” in their lexicon 🤣

Comparing the risk for community-associated Clostridioides difficile infection across different antibiotics
As expected, clindamycin is the worst 👎
While doxycycline is among those with the lowest risk 👍
