The amount of people who think I'm seething is honestly kind of funny.
We talk about how Imperium fans are fragile, and there is truth to this, but then you offer mild and measured critique of an art piece and they freak out just like SM fans.

Most people assume the word "trafficking" means something like "transporting for sale." That's what I thought it meant until very recently. But the legal meaning was greatly broadened a few decades ago.
This is probably because the trans community tend to be totalists; you either agree with them on every single issue or you are the Enemy. The framing here is one they generally explicitly and implicitly accept.

And to some extent, what makes it work as a wedge issue for anti-trans politics, is that they say “this isn’t just one specific issue—it’s representative of the whole conflict” and then we agree with them! We totally validate that framing instead of trying to quarantine sports

People are focusing on how cyberpunk is a dystopia, so it makes sense workers can’t win, but there’s an even simpler reason. Cyberpunk is an rpg setting, if there was a workers revolution, the setting would end, which would be boring.
as a neoreactionary my biggest problem with star trek as a franchise is that it does not depict the future as a patchwork of neocameralist corporation-states ruled by shareholders. like if you're smart enough to build spaceships you're smart enough to agree with me lol

It's definitely not a manifesto but people who do complain want media that affirms their worldview; they want the totality of society to cede to their point. They're totalitarians.

I do think with how some people talk about stories like Cyberpunk and act like it owes people solutions.
No it doesn’t. It’s not a political manifesto. Sometimes it is enough to just depict a world of total corporate control and trying to survive in it.

I have kinda accepted that abortion will always be popular and supported, no matter how rational the arguments against it are. I realized it's not about logic, its priorities. Modern society genuinely, wholeheartedly believes killing children is a fair price to pay to not go-

The same people who voted to block datacenters in their states will be angry at Google for building datacenters overseas instead of in their states. They will call it a failure of capitalism.
Mark my words they will do this and never feel an ounce of cognitive dissonance.

Competition is pretty much the only thing people actually care about in playing high school sports. It is why you have try outs, it is why you have morning and afternoon practices, it is why every weekend is a new tournament. It is why you get benched if you don't perform.

Mind you its a data center that
- Is covering 100% of its own power consumption
- Uses zero water for cooling, just bathroom and kitchen
- Offers a 120% water stewardship pledge (Net gain of water in the county)
- Provided housing to construction workers to prevent a local temporary rent hike
- Investing in the local school system
- Was going to pay for the entire County's budget for 7 years
And it still wasn't enough. There just is zero way to overcome the negative PR/NIMBY

I know this is hard for these types to understand but so so many of your fellow compateiots actually do, unironically, care about sports. It's a big part of their lives. They value fairness in the games they spend much of their lives watching and thinking about.

This kind of snark loses its sting if you know there's literally no time in the history of English-language publishing when a large percentage of news periodicals wasn't bankrolled by wealthy eccentrics--and this dependence on the rich applies especially to leftie publications.

There's a reported crime scene in the game where some people tried to form a union. The company sold the property to Militech and then Militech murdered all the labour activists for trespassing.
Cyberpunk is the setting where capitalism won, and how the world deals with that.
