An absolute stunner from @jaythebirdsings of @rivalsons. Hands-down my song of the year. Maybe it's because my kids are leaving home, and my parents are getting older, but a song hasn't wrecked me like this since Jessie the cowgirl in Toy Story 2. open.spotify.com/track/5DZ30…

Music fans! Is there a song where the crowd claps along live, but you wish they didn't? Maybe a heartfelt ballad that's ruined by the crowd's incessant 'clap-clap-clap'? Well-known songs preferred, but any suggestions welcomed, thanks! #JournoRequest

Anyone out there in a band? Do you know what it means to 'leapfrog stages'? Someone said it to me in an interview and I'm not entirely sure what they meant!

Thrill of a lifetime to interview @brianmaycom for the cover of @Guitarist_Mag - and mad to hear about the early years when Queen were (briefly) penniless losers! Pick up a print copy if you can...

I’ll be honest - I was dragged to @sixthemusical in Cheltenham last night… and was blown away. Awesome band, instantly catchy songs and the six Queens are absolute dynamite. And I’m not just saying that because I’m called ‘Henry’.

I hope Timothée Chalamet appreciates the cumulative hours it takes me to put the acute accent on his name.

I’d just like to say that I hated Arctic Monkeys long before it was fashionable to.

UK musicians! Do you play in a wedding/function band? Fancy answering 2-3 quick questions about how UK market has recovered (or not) since Covid? It's for a Musicians Union blog and we can plug stuff. If you're keen, please drop a line to [email protected] #journorequest

Great piece about Slash - and a pleasure to contribute.

Just interviewed Paul Whitehouse and he did a load of classic Fast Show characters for me. My inner sixth-former/undergraduate is in heaven. A good day at work.

So this is ‘summer’ in modern Britain, is it? Either a slate-grey slurry or sweating like a rotisserie chicken…?

Great piece. It’s taken me about 21 years to master the In Too Deep solo. Actually, I still play the cheat’s version - very fast pull-offs instead of tapping.

There’s that old saying: ‘don’t bore us, get to the chorus’. Got me thinking about songs where verse is miles better than chorus. Off the top of my head, Graham Coxon’s Freakin’ Out, Bruno Mars’s Locked Out Of Heaven, Oasis’s Acquiesce. Any other suggestions?

Another that springs to mind is Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic by The Police. Stately, brooding, beautiful verse... sunk by the goonishly upbeat chorus.
Brilliant piece by a great up-and-coming music writer. I agree with The Colour & The Shape in the top spot, too.

Musicians! Do you TikTok? If so, fancy contributing to an advice feature I'm writing for the Musician's Union magazine? You'd just need to answer a few quick questions via email & I can plug anything you like. Please DM if interested or [email protected] #journorequests
